Chapter 1999
Soon, Alexander arrived at the Rollins' residence. He sat in his car, gazing at the closed gate, lost in thought and tapping the steering wheel. He seemed to be waiting. A moment later, his phone beeped twice. He checked a message, scrolling thoughtfully.
Although Mike had promised to cooperate with Rhea, he remained vigilant. He knew her cunning; she wouldn't let her guard down eitherโthey were merely using each other. However, he was intensely curious about the "trump card" Rhea had mentioned. He didn't believe their "boss" was it.
For the past two days, in addition to monitoring updates and managing the research facility, Mike had been subtly tracking Rhea. He needed to know her activities, yet he'd uncovered nothing substantial. More precisely, he'd witnessed Rhea's cruelty. Besides the laboratory, she'd spent the last two days torturing the boss in a secret room.
Though Mike hadn't witnessed the events firsthand, the horrific screams sent chills down his spine. He felt no sympathy for the bossโheโd already given him a severe beatingโbut he considered torture too extreme.
Rhea, however, differed. Mike had seen her experiment on living human beings, treating them like animals, exploiting anyone for her own ends.
Intriguingly, she'd secretly visited her parents' house twice, staying only about an hour each time. The research facility was far from their home, making these trips a considerable time investment.
Yet, she was willing to make the effort. Mike wondered if it indicated she cared for her parents. From his experience, that seemed unlikely.
Mike sensed something was amiss. Unable to simply enter her house, he considered confiding in Alexander. However, Alexander was already overwhelmed, and Mike felt too embarrassed to burden him after failing to protect Lily.
Mike followed Rhea when he saw her quietly leaving her house and heading towards her car. Since everyone believed her dead, revealing her identity was risky, so she disguised herself with a face mask, sunglasses, and a veiled hat.
He watched her drive away, then discreetly followed in one of his rarely used vehicles, maintaining a safe distance.
This time, however, Rhea didn't go to her parents' home; she drove around the city.
