Listen to this chapter:

Alexander had left Dominic's estate, unsure of the virus's contagiousnessโ€”whether he carried it or not. He could only avoid and minimize contact with others. Fortunately, his contacts showed no symptoms, and he felt well. Still, he hadn't heard from his wife, Lily. He knew his network and resources should locate her in Kingsland, unless she'd left the city.

He was puzzled by the lack of clues regarding her departure in such a short time. Anxious, he dared not imagine what she might be facing. He longed to mobilize Kingsland's residents in her search but knew it was impossible.

"I might be able to get Cameron to help if he were still around," he mused. "Unfortunately, he's gone missing too."

Alexander called Anastasia. He'd told her to wait for updates, but the last two days had been too hectic. Conversely, her silence likely stemmed from fear, sadness, or worry.

The phone rang longer than usual. Finally, Anastasia's weak voice answered, "H-Hello? Alex?"

"Tasia, about your father..." Alexander paused, noticing something was amiss. "Are you sick?"

"What about my father?" Anastasia's voice gained excitement. "Did you find him yet? Where is he? I'll go fetch him!"

Alexander was momentarily speechless. "No, I haven't received news yet. I just wanted to ask if you have any updates." He hesitated, then had to dash her hopes.

Anastasia's voice fell. "No. No one has contacted me, either. Alex, do you think my father is already..." Her voice choked.

Alexander knew what she meant. He sighed. "Hey, no news could be good news."

"I'm thinking of reporting his disappearance to the police," she said thoughtfully.

Alexander considered it. "It's an option."

Anastasia was surprised. "I thought you were going to dissuade me."

"No," he replied. "Considering your father's position and that he's gone missing instead of being poisoned like last time, it might be a good idea. Not to mention..." He stopped short of mentioning the suspicious activities of the secret organization. "Anyway, perhaps the police can handle it better," he concluded.
