Although none of the workers here are loyal to the organization, at least we wanted the experiment to succeed, unlike you and Lily, who came here to sabotage it. Who else could have done it?
"It's pointless to make false accusations," Mike said, turning away. He thought, I don't care if she found out or is trying to trick me—it's a waste of time arguing.
"It doesn't matter anymore," Rhea said, suddenly bursting into laughter. "The organization has abandoned the boss. Now that the experiment has worked, you, me, the boss—we're all expendable." She laughed so hard she almost collapsed onto the table.
Mike was affected by her words. She's right. Now that the experiment has succeeded, everyone is expendable. A profound sorrow washed over him; he had failed to understand the organization's true intentions.
"As you said, we're in the same boat," Mike said sadly, turning to leave. "There's no need to argue."
As he took his first step, Rhea asked, "Do you know why Rick took Lily away?"
"To meet the higher-ups," Mike said without looking back. "Lily made it work; they want to meet her."
Rhea chuckled. "You're so naive. The truth is, the experiment isn't a success yet; there's one more step," she said meaningfully, slowly straightening and calming. "Lily never expected this to bring her closer to death, even if she succeeded."
If Lily discovers the truth, would she be this calm? No! Everyone fears death! Even if she doesn't, she has her unborn children to consider. What will she feel when she realizes her creation will kill her?
Imagining Lily's reaction, Rhea felt less disappointed and sad; she even looked forward to seeing it. Unfortunately, Rick wouldn't let her come along.
"What the hell are you talking about? What last step?" Mike, sensing something was wrong, spun around, glaring at Rhea.
Her reaction pleased her. She chuckled. "Worried now? Still think we're in the same boat? Mike, I'm not like you. How do you know the organization doesn't need me?" She casually tugged at her glove. "The truly dispensable one is Lily."
Mike knew she wasn't trying to provoke him. He grabbed her collar. "Tell me what you know!"
