Chapter 1950
Rick laughed, a sinister smile sending shivers down everyone's spines.
Lily was shocked. "So, you're dismissing it? Is this just a scam?" She tried to shake him off, but his unique techniqueโminimal force, yet an unbreakable holdโprevented her escape. Her arm wasn't hurting, yet she remained trapped. Considering his skill, she realized a fight could last an hourโif she were at her former strength. In her current state, victory was impossible. She had underestimated the enemy.
Her kickboxing expertise and knowledge usually ensured easy victories, even during her pregnancy. She'd believed herself capable of handling anything. But she hadn't anticipated the organization's deployment of expert kickboxers like Rick, in addition to firearms. Brute force, she feared, wouldn't work. She sighed. "Okay, I'll listen to you. I'll try to look for Spades King."
"Why does the boss have such a nickname?" Mike whispered.
Rick, his eyes fixed on Lily, his hand still gripping her wrist, said, "You can't go. Only they can."
"Okay, you two, go ahead then," Lily said, obeying while winking at Mike.
Mike, anxious but resigned, said, "We must find a way to get the boss back as soon as possible."
Rick snorted, unconcerned. Holding the box in one hand and Lily in the other, he walked away. Lily stumbled behind him, complaining, "At least let me change out of this protective suit first! Where are you taking me? Are you bringing me to meet your boss? Aren't the people in your organization supposed to be..."
Her words trailed off, unanswered. Rick remained silent. When their footsteps faded, Mike and Rhea exchanged dismayed glances.
Rhea stared at the numbers and images on the computer, her hand pressing down on the table, her feelings indescribable.
"What's wrong? Still dissatisfied?" Mike asked.
"Hmph!" She turned away, ignoring him. A moment later, she mumbled, "Why?! What's the basis of it?! I've worked so hard! I thought I'd worked hard enough!"
She looked at her hands, reluctantly. Since joining the organization, she'd relentlessly pursued knowledge, exceeding others' efforts, believing herself a genius. After all, Anastasia's chronic poisoning had gone unnoticed for a long time; she'd even manipulated Cameron like a puppet. Yet, this experiment, her most painstaking endeavor, had dealt the most significant blow.
Why do I repeatedly fail even after trying so hard?! How did Lily succeed in such a short time?!
