Chapter 1935

Lily was neither upset nor reckless. The truth was, she had already succeeded, but hadn't told anyone. She'd finally created the latest batch of experimental products just two days prior. Because the success was recent and she was uncertain of the drug's stabilityโ€”coupled with her reluctance to hand it over to the organizationโ€”she hadn't revealed it to anyone, including Mike. However, Rick's attitude today puzzled her. He'd issued the ultimatum as if he knew the experiment had succeeded.

'I haven't told anyone, so how did Rick find out? Did he simply give me an ultimatum without knowing?' She noticed Mike's confusion and offered a small, knowing smile.

"I mean, I'll give my all to the experiment today. There's still a batch of experimental products, so I'll know the result tomorrow. As he said, all he wants is the outcome, whether it works or not."

"But if you fail..."

"If I fail, he can just kill me," she shrugged, smiling casually. "That's the worst he could do."

"I won't let him!"

Mike said solemnly, "I won't let anything happen to you as long as I'm alive." That was his promise to Alexander, and he was determined to keep it.

"Relax, okay? I'm not going to die so easily!" Lily smiled, unfazed. She hadn't told Mike about the experiment's success because she believed secrecy was best maintained by telling no one. Simultaneously, his safety was better ensured if he remained unaware. After all, the more Mike knew, the more dangerous things would become for him, especially within the organization.

"Lily..." Mike called out guiltily. "I'm sorry for dragging you into this."

Lily shook her head. "No, we all got dragged into this, so you shouldn't blame yourself. You should already know there's no escaping if they target us. Take Nick, for example. He's young and has done nothing wrong, yet they still target him. So don't shoulder any unnecessary blame, okay?"

Indeed, there was no reason for Mike to blame himself. He sighed quietly and nodded.

"The more I spend time with you, the more I understand why Alex fell for you." Mike had known Alexander for a long time, and, to his knowledge, Alexander had never been attracted to anyone, despite many beautiful women pursuing him. Therefore, Mike was astonished by his sudden marriage and curious about the woman who'd charmed him. When he'd met Lily in Westwood, he hadn't thought much of her, though she was beautiful. After all, many beautiful women possessed different styles, and as Lily wasn't Mike's type, he hadn't considered her Alexander's either. However, he'd discovered Lily's unique charm after getting to know her better. She was intelligent, decisive, and calmโ€”often leaving Mike outmatched.

'Sure enough, Alex has good judgment and is far better than me at business and judging women.'

"Thank you for your compliment," Lily inclined her head slightly. "However, it's not the time for small talk."

"Yes," Mike said solemnly, "Since they've abandoned the boss, I doubt they'll take much action for him. I guess the organization already knows we did it but hasn't exposed us because we're more useful than the boss now."
