Listen to this chapter:

It wouldn't have mattered as much if that was Mike and Lily's plan from the beginning, but they had no idea who had drugged the four bodyguards. Although it helped them, they were unsure whether the other party was friend or foe.

"Stop wasting time!" Lily pushed him into the office.

Mike barged in. The door was ajar, opening slightly as he bumped it, causing him to stumble. No one was around; the "boss" was absent. This puzzled Mike further. Everything felt like a trap, meticulously set before their arrival.

Mike, worried, peeked out. "Do you think they're baiting us?"

"We're already here," Lily retorted, her tone unfriendly as she glared. "What's the difference between bait and opportunity?" She thought how irritating he had become.

They were already committed, so they might as well search. Leaving wouldn't change anything.

Her glare startled Mike. "Got it. I'll stop hesitating!"

He returned to the office and began his search, focusing on the safe beside the desk. The vast, empty space felt unsettling; he sensed someone hiding, ready to attack.

Lily watched the four men outside. She realized they weren't simply drugged; they'd been attacked first, the drugs used only to incapacitate them for an extended period. Someone had fought with the bodyguards and won. There were several broken bones and limbs. Who was the attacker?

The attacker was skilled and had concealed their identity. This reminded Lily of the person who'd warned her in the lab and left a note. Could it be the same person?

Mike continued his search. The safe was locked, but thankfully he'd memorized the passcode. He donned gloves and reached for the keypad.

"Don't touch it!" Lily yelled from the doorway, startling him.

Confused, Mike asked, "What's wrong?"

"Wait!" She approached, examining the safe. She'd seen Rhea open it; the boss hadn't been secretive about the passcode. There were only two reasons for this: either the item they sought wasn't in the safe, or the safe was more complex than it seemed.

"You know how to check a safe?" Mike asked incredulously, watching her meticulous examination.

This wasn't new to him; he'd come to expect it from Lily. He stood beside her, watching, observing the room. Heโ€™d never noticed the desk drawers before. Now, he saw something odd: all the drawers were open, their contents completely visible. In fact, the drawer space was emptyโ€”there were no drawers at all. The safe was their only obvious option, unless a secret passage existed.
