Chapter 1771
Lily couldn't leave just yet. Even if she went, she couldn't be of much help. She had analyzed the blood sample, but needed more time to investigate certain components. Only then could she formulate a counteracting medicine to cure Cameron. Anastasia, however, was growing impatient. Cameron's position of authority meant many people sought daily audiences with him. It was difficult for Anastasia to manage their requests; claiming a two-day illness was plausible, but a longer absence would arouse suspicion.
"Not yet," Lily murmured, pondering over a test tube's contents.
"Then how much longer?" Anastasia's anxiety was evident.
"I understand your predicament, Tasia," Lily said solemnly, holding her phone tightly. "It's not easy, but without the data, and before I develop a cure, going there accomplishes nothing. Give me one more day." After a moment, she added firmly, "Just one more day! I'll bring the cure tomorrow."
"Okay..." Anastasia replied, resigned. She had no other option but to trust Lily.
Turning, she knelt beside her father's bed, gently taking his hand that lay outside the blanket. "Dad," she whispered, sadness evident in her voice, "you must be strong. You'll get through this. You'll be fine." Though he showed no response, she believed he could hear her.
A soft knock interrupted her vigil. A servant's voice called from outside. Anastasia, having instructed that no one enter without knocking while her father was unwell, took a deep breath, wiped away her tears, and approached the door. One last glance at her still father elicited a sigh before she opened it.
"What is it?" she asked the servant.
Despite her father's illness, Anastasia still commanded a degree of authority. The servants believed their current disagreement was a minor squabble, not a consequence of Cameron's illness.
"Mr. Moore is here and refuses to leave," the servant whispered. "He insists on seeing you."
Anastasia frowned. "Didn't I say my father needs rest and can see no one?"
The servant was also in a difficult position; Fabian Moore was Anastasia's uncle. His persistence left the servant little choice but to inform Anastasia.
"Me?" Anastasia pondered. Then, a resolute expression settled on her face. "Tell him I'm not home."
