Yes, humans. The experiment included human test subjects. Although the data was purely numerical, the collected data and observed reactions clearly indicated human involvement.
This research institute proved far more terrifying than Lily had imagined. A chill rose up her spine. The more data she reviewed, the more frightened she became.
Suddenly, a hand on her shoulder made her jump. Relieved to see Alexander, she breathed a sigh of relief. "When did you come upstairs?" she asked, regaining her composure. "Are you done?"
"What's wrong?" Alexander asked, noticing her intense focus on the computer screen.
"Nothing. I'm just reviewing some data," she replied, taking a deep breath and turning to him. "I had someone hack into the encrypted database from the old experimental base. As I suspected, they're conducting illegal experiments."
"The poisons?" Alexander inquired.
"It's more than that," Lily said. "They're experimenting on people. I suspect Secretary Rollins, Austin, and possibly even Edward are their test subjects."
"Edward?!" Alexander's eyebrows shot up in surprise. While he'd found Edward's behavior odd, he hadn't connected it to the institute. "Yes," Lily confirmed, nodding. She turned back to the computer, clicking to show him the data. "Look. This encrypted database shows they're experimenting with drugs that control the central nervous system and bodily functions. The effects vary depending on the drug's properties."
"Can it control thoughts?" Alexander asked, narrowing his eyes.
"Not completely, only partially," Lily clarified. "I suspect their experiments haven't been entirely successful. The data shows a high failure rate. Many experiments have been conducted, but there's no record of true successโalways side effects."
Alexander sneered. "Harmful things have side effects. What side effects are we talking about?"
"It's more than just side effects!" Lily said gravely. "They're trying to control people's minds to achieve their goals. However, uncontrolled behavior in previous subjects led to their termination."
"According to the data, only Experiment RX shows success, but the results are still pending. They're likely uncertain about the side effects. They might be able to control someone's mind, but there's still a significant chance of failure."
"So, what's their plan with this research? To take over the world?!" Alexander exclaimed.
Thompson had initially approached him with a positive investment proposal, mentioning the dual applications of medicine and fragrance and aiming for comfortable patient treatment. It had seemed significant. But no one anticipated such depravity hidden behind such a positive facade. The thought was repulsive. Although Alexander's words were mocking, Lily nodded solemnly. "I believe that's their ultimate goal."
Alexander fell silent, his eyes widening in shock. After a moment, he let out a mocking laugh. "This is ridiculous!"
