"You're right!" Alexander nodded, immediately summoning his henchman. Other cars were entering and leaving the vaccine development base. Despite the late hour, the base bustled with activity, people constantly moving in and out.
"Call your man back," Lily said. "It's pointless. Edward might not even be there. If you can't enter the base, there's no use."
Alexander frowned, remaining silent. Lily couldn't guess his thoughts.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"Actually, we might be able to get in," he replied, raising his eyebrows.
"Huh?" Lily quickly understood. "You mean... through Secretary Rollins? But he's still in a coma, and outsiders can't know."
After a pause, she added, "Tasia can hold them off for now, but if the Moores intervene, she'll be overwhelmed."
"You're right. We'll have to be faster," Alexander said, already initiating deployment.
Lily rose from his lap, moving aside to avoid disturbing him. A vibration in her pocket alerted her; she'd silenced her phone before sleeping. A message from Olivia appeared: "Did you find him?"
Lily stared at her phone, understanding Olivia's hesitancy to call. She felt apologetic. We found Edward but lost him again. What should I tell Olivia?
Seeing Alexander still occupied, she quietly left the study, whispering into her phone, "We found him, but we've lost him again. Don't worry. I think he's fine."
Olivia immediately called, having heard Lily's message. "Where did Edward go?"
"He drove to a highly classified area; Alex's men couldn't follow. They're guarding the gates. While they didn't see his car leave, we don't know if he changed vehicles. We don't know if he's still inside."
Lily continued, "However, judging by his actions, he's deliberately hiding this from you. Whether he's helping someone or being coerced, he seems safe for now. He's still... valuable."
"Are you saying he might be used?!" Olivia exclaimed. "By whom? And what place couldn't Alex access?"
"Don't worry," Lily reassured her. "Alex is investigating. Stay home. If Edward returns, act normal. Don't ask questions. We'll see what he does."
Olivia sounded tense. "Edward... Why would he do this?"
"Whatever the case, we'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Whether used or coerced, we'll believe he didn't intend this. You believe him, too, right?"
"Of course, but..." Olivia's trust was wavering after discovering his deception.
