Chapter 1714
Lily didn't refuse Alexander's company; it would be advantageous to have him along. The following morning, they went to Rollins' house, but the servants refused them entry.
"Sorry, Secretary Rollins is unwell. Please come again another time," the servant said politely.
It was the first time Alexander had been denied entry to someone's home. While he hadn't visited Cameron frequently, he'd never encountered such difficulty, unlike Fabian. Husband and wife exchanged a knowing glance; this was expected and reasonable. Cameron was a changed man, so his refusal to see guests wasn't surprising.
"Since he's unwell, it's all the more reason for him to see us," Alexander said. "My wife is a herbal medicine practitioner and might be able to treat Secretary Rollins' illness. Please also tell Secretary Rollins that I need to speak with him about the vaccine project."
The servant hesitated, clearly uncomfortable. However, remembering Alexander's previous visits, he said hesitantly, "I'll go and ask him."
"Thanks!"
Lily quickly interjected, "Hold on. Tell him I worked in the same lab as Ms. Rhea Moore. I possess any skills she might have." The servant looked perplexed. Lily smiled. "Just tell him that."
Though baffled, the servant nodded and went inside. He didn't understand Lily's strategy, but Alexander did.
"You're suggesting you possess the drug Rhea hadโthe one he desperately needs?"
"Since he's not his old self, we'll offer what he now values most," Lily replied.
Lily nodded, confirming his understanding. "You're right, but do I have it?"
After all this time, he was surprised she possessed anything capable of such manipulation.
"If such a thing exists, it would be terrifying; one could easily control a large population. With that power, wouldn't one be able to do anything they desired?"
"It doesn't matter whether I actually have it or not. What matters is that Secretary Rollins believes I do," Lily said, a casual smile playing on her lips.
Alexander sighed, gently knocking her forehead. "Aren't you worried he'll be furious when he can't get what he wants?"
Lily showed no fear, lifting her arm. "With my fighting skills, should I be afraid? Besides," she added without waiting for a reply, "you're with me!"
Alexander wanted to scold her, but her playful attempt at reassurance made him sigh and wrap an arm around her waist. "You..."
At that moment, the servant returned, flustered. "Sir, Ma'am, please come back another day."
