Chapter 1686

"It's very simple," Lily stated. "Dashiell is right. Only Dr. Blanc and Edmund can easily access my laboratory. The previous surveillance video shows Edmund deliberately impersonating Dashiell."

The laboratory was extensively monitored; this was common knowledge. The cameras meticulously recorded all activity, including experimental progress and modifications. Dashiell wouldn't have made such a blatant mistake, leaving a vague but identifiable silhouette on the video. This was intentional; someone was framing him.

Alexander sighed lightly. "What an unprofessional move," he murmured, acknowledging the culprit's clumsy attempt despite his unfamiliarity with such tactics. "Sometimes, simplicity is most effective. Edmund and I fought two days agoโ€”everyone knows. This makes it easier for people to believe him. Besides..."

Lily glanced toward the door. "He's done so much; this just adds to the damage."

"Is the little girl alright?" Alexander asked.

Lily nodded. "She's fine, almost fully recovered. When she's discharged, I thinkโ€”"

"I understand," Alexander interrupted. "I meant what I said before."

Her frown softened into a smile; she visibly relaxed.

"By the way, there's somethingโ€ฆ" Alexander hesitated, a rare occurrence that surprised Lily.

"What is it?"

After a long pause, he finally said, "Ms. Rollins has been taken by her father's men." He knew she would learn eventually.

"What?!" Lily gasped. "Didn't I tell you something was wrong with Cameron? We should have kept her with us! Whyโ€”"

"I know! But he's her father! How can I prevent him from taking his daughter home?"

"But Tasiaโ€ฆ" Lily recalled Anastasia's distressed call, her helplessness palpable. "Secretary Rollins always adored her. You know this," Alexander soothed. "Besides, don't you want to know what caused his sudden change?"

"You mean, if Tasia returns, she'll learn more?" She quickly shook her head. "No. Tasia said Cameron would confine her and confiscate her devices. Even if she discovered something, she couldn't reach us."

Alexander smiled. "Don't worry. Technology's advanced. There are other ways to contact us besides phones and computers. Besides, aren't we leaving soon?"

Lily remained silent. He was right. Their departure was imminent. Then, she could confront them directly. She suspected the research institute wouldn't let things rest; they would certainly attack again.
