Chapter 1682
"He's doing something!"
Dr. Blanc turned and strode from the door, Lily trailing behind. The workers were surprised to see her. "Isn't Dr. Russell...?" they began, but Dr. Blanc's grim expression and rapid pace silenced any further questions. They watched as he headed toward the wards.
'Is thereโฆ another emergency? But we're not receiving any alerts!' The doctors and nurses wondered, while Dr. Blanc and Lily reached the VIP ward area. They bypassed Debbie's room and went straight to Alexander's. Dr. Blanc threw the door open with such force that even Lily recoiled. He usually seems so gentle and cautious, she thought, yet that was a bold and fearless action.
Alexander, instead of lying in bed, had someone face down, arms pinned behind their back. He wore a hospital gown, but his posture was tense, his gaze cold and piercing. However, upon seeing Lily, his expression softened momentarily before hardening again as he looked at Dr. Blanc.
"You're here. I'll leave him to you."
He pulled the man up, spun him around, and shoved him forward. The man stumbled, half-kneeling. He wore a white coat. Though his head was bowed, his identity was clear.
Dr. Blanc, overwhelmed with shock, could scarcely believe his eyes. "It's truly you!"
The man slowly rose, brushing himself off with a smile. "Dr. Blanc, what's all this? I'm here to check on the patient. Who else would it be?" His gaze was innocent, clear. But a flicker of surprise crossed his face when he saw Lily.
"Lily? Why are you here? Aren't youโฆ" He paused, then continued, as if realizing the situation, "Dr. Blanc, you're putting on a show for Dashiell. You've truly sided with her."
Dr. Blanc's expression was somber, his eyes filled with anguish. "How long will you maintain this pretense?"
"Pretense? Dr. Blanc, I have no idea what you're talking about." He casually shoved his hands in his pockets and shrugged. "I was making my rounds. I'm unaware of upsetting Mr. Russell. Perhaps a misunderstanding?"
"Why do you think I arrived so quickly?" Dr. Blanc's gaze was intense, his voice laced with sadness. "You've disappointed me so much! You were among the first to join the department. Why? Why would you do this?" His voice rose, his hands clenching into fists. "You know the department's purpose, the importance of this project. How could you sabotage it now? Edmund, why?"
