Chapter 1665
"I'll see to it," Dr. Blanc said. "How do you know she was poisoned?"
He immediately recognized the redundancy of his question; a herbalist could diagnose many ailments through pulse diagnosis.
"Then who do you think poisoned her?" he asked.
Lily shook her head. "I'm unsure and don't want to jump to conclusions. However, it's a serious problem. Whoever did thisโwhat was their goal? What were their motives? Having someone like that among us is too dangerous."
"You're right," Dr. Blanc agreed, turning to Edmund. "What do you think?"
"I think Dr. Russell is correct. Whoever it is, we must catch them! I never expected anyone like that to be hiding among us. It's truly appalling."
Dr. Blanc considered this. "Then about the poisoningโฆ"
"Debbie will be fine. I administered the antidote; it should counteract the poison soon," Lily explained.
Edmund, surprised, asked, "That was for the poison? Not to protect her heart?"
Lily smiled, and he understood. "It's a misdirection?"
"It's best not to reveal everything yet. Before identifying the culprit, we should withhold some information."
Dr. Blanc approved her decision, admiring her quick thinking.
"But the child doesn't seem to be doing very well."
"She'll be fine once the antidote takes effect. She would have recovered by now if she hadn't been poisoned. Her pulse is steady and strong, and her immune system is robust enough to fight the virus. Her condition worsened only because of the poison," Lily paused. "I'd like to stay here for two days to monitor her recovery."
Dr. Blanc was stunned. "You?" he exclaimed. "No! You've overworked yourself. You won't be able to cope. I'll station someone here. We don't need you to do this. Go and rest!"
"It's okay. It's just two days. If I'm not mistaken, Debbie will recover by tomorrow morning. I'd like to be here when she does," Lily replied, sensing his objection. She added hastily, "Besides, my husband is next door, so it's convenient for me to visit him. Just consider this an opportunity for me to spend some time with him, okay?"
Her words were half-jesting, but her eyes were earnest. Dr. Blanc looked resigned and frowned. "Youโฆ"
"Thank you, Dr. Blanc," she said quickly.
Dr. Blanc sighed, helplessly shaking his head. "All right, just for two days. After that, you must take a proper rest!"
"I will. Not only that, I'll take a long rest and maybe even loaf around a bit, okay?" Lily chuckled.
She internally noted, 'It's going to be soon. Based on the latest data and the antidote's potency, I'll see the effects of the medicine within two days. By then, we'll be able to tackle the virus. Then everyone can relax and we can all go home.' However, she decided to share this good news later.
"Then leave it to me to catch the culprit!" Edmund growled. "We can't allow such a wolf in sheep's clothing to work among us!"
"Yes! We must find out who they are!"
