Chapter 1656
Michelleโs face paled at Dominicโs words, though relief at the possibility of her sonโs survival warred with the unsettling mention of a corpse.
โIโve already sent someone to search for him. Iโll inform you immediately,โ Dominic said, taking a sip of tea. He paused, noticing everyoneโs intense gaze. โWhat?!โ he exclaimed. โI already said Iโd tell you if I hear anything!โ
โDom, thank you so much!โ Daniel cried, his voice thick with emotion. โI knew you wouldnโt let him die!โ Elijah echoed his gratitude.
Dominic waved them off impatiently. โEnough! Stop it! Donโt show up at my door again! I canโt stand all this crying and wailing. And you, Daniel! What are you doing, running around like this at your age? If something happens to you, whose fault will it be?!โ
โI know my limits!โ Daniel replied cheerfully.
โYou do, but I donโt! Next time, I wonโt let you in. How annoying!โ Dominic took a large gulp of tea.
Daniel nodded. โOkay, we wonโt bother you. Please tell us immediately if you hear anything.โ
โYes, yes, I know! Why are you so long-winded?โ Dominic grumbled.
The family left, delighted despite the lack of concrete news about Austin. Dominicโs willingness to help, and the assurance of Austinโs survival, was enough for now.
But a dark cloud settled over Dominic once they were gone. The situation was far more complex than it appeared. Austinโs predicament was perilous; the organization involved was vast and powerful, far more intricate than a simple terrorist group. Dominic couldnโt determine the extent of foreign involvement. And then there was Lilyโheโd heard nothing, and had no idea of her situation. Finally, there was the virus.
Silence descended before Galenโs soft voice broke through. โGrandpaโฆโ Only the childโs presence could soothe Dominicโs turmoil. He lifted Galen onto his lap. Looking at the little boyโs face, he asked, โHey, kid, do you miss Mommy?โ
Galen nodded. โMhm. When will Mommy come back?โ
โI donโt know. I think sheโll be back soon,โ Dominic sighed. โUntil your mother returns, we have each other. Iโll take good care of you, as long as youโre good, okay?โ The uncertainty weighed heavily on him. If anything happened to Galen, Dominic wouldn't know how to face himself. They were safe in the manor, but he couldnโt guarantee Galenโs safety outside its walls.
โOkay!โ Galen nodded obediently.
Dominic breathed a sigh of relief. โCome, letโs go see the pigeons!โ
Galenโs face lit up. He grabbed Dominicโs hand, giggling. The old man and the young boy walked out into the backyard, leaving their worries behind for a moment.
