Chapter 1646

"All right, I understand," she nodded. Seeing Edmund still standing, she asked, "Is there anything else, Dr. Morris?"

He hesitated, then asked, "Dr. Russellโ€ฆ are you sure about Debbie?" He knew he shouldn't question a colleague publicly, especially given the diverse factions present, but his doubts remained. Public questioning would only divide the team. Many things eluded scientific explanation; multiple perspectives were crucial. She looked at him intently. Had he questioned her earlier, she wouldn't have bothered explaining. She saw no need to dispel preconceived notions.

"Alex had a similar reaction. I was worried and inexperienced then, made a wrong call, and things worsened. Fortunately, he recovered. Debbie is young; I fear her body might not withstand the treatment. The post-infusion changes are riskier than her current state." She shrugged helplessly. "I don't know how else to explain it. Do you understand?"

He frowned, considering her words. "I understand, but are you sure Debbie's situation mirrors Mr. Russell's?"

"I am sure!" she nodded decisively.

Reassured by her conviction, he conceded, "To be honest, I don't trust you very much, but I hope you're right." They were all doctors, sharing the common goal of healing patients.

As he left to check on other patients before reporting to Dr. Blanc, someone patted his shoulder. "Moe!"

He turned, seeing no one, then saw a grinning Dr. Stone. "I've done this so many times, and you still fall for it!"

"Dr. Stone, be serious during working hours," Edmund said gravely, adjusting his glasses.

"Hey! We're not in the office! We're young. Why the old-soul act?" Dashiell complained, reaching for Edmund's arm, only to be deftly avoided. He smacked his lips, then walked beside Edmund. "You've aged working with Dr. Blanc! This place is dull. Everyone's so focused. Relax a little!"

Edmund stopped, his face serious. "Wrong, Dashiell! This is the office. We work constantly. And it's wrong to gossip, let alone criticize Dr. Blanc."

Dashiell was stunned. When Edmund continued walking, he hurried to catch up. "I wasn't criticizingโ€ฆ okay, okay! My fault! We're friends, or colleagues. No need to be cold!"
