Chapter 1629
"You have no jurisdiction over this, despite your position?"
Puzzled, Rhea frowned.
Cameron explained, "Even with my high-ranking position, I'm in charge of a different department."
"Tsk." Rhea's disdain was evident. "I thought you held more power. I was wrong."
Cameron didn't retort to her mockery; shame washed over his features.
Meanwhile, Fabian and his wife watched from afar, bewildered.
"I wonder what Rhea has on him," Fabian mused. "I've never seen Ron so attentive. Not even with my sister. He's acting like aโฆ" He hesitated.
Maria, ever outspoken, finished his sentence, "Like a lapdog!"
Fabian was astounded, shooting his wife a look, but refrained from scolding her; he felt the same way. "I feel the same. I asked Rhea about the secret just now."
"What did she say?" Fabian asked eagerly.
"She said learning it might cost me my life and asked if I still wanted to know." Maria shuddered, recalling Rhea's expression.
Fabian was puzzled. "It's getting harder to understand her." He shook his head, sighing; he felt his words were wrong. "Well, I've never truly known her. I didn't even know she could poison someone as a teenager."
The memory of hearing about Anastasia's poisoning from Cameron still stunned him. He couldn't fathom how chronic inhalation poisoning was possible. It seemed like a plot from a novel. Yet, it had happened, perpetrated by his daughter. Even considering Rhea was a teenager when she began poisoning Arianna, Fabian had to admit, his daughter was extraordinary.
"Same hereโฆ" Maria sighed, looking towards her daughter.
But Rhea was gone, and Cameron was leaving. Maria panicked. "Fabian, where's Ree?"
"Wasn't sheโฆ" Fabian was dumbfounded, realizing his daughter had vanished. "Where could she have gone so quickly?" He glanced around, finding no sign of Rhea. Abandoning the search, he chased after Cameron.
Cameron's men stopped Fabian a few steps from his brother-in-law. "Ronโฆ" he called.
Cameron stopped and turned, giving Fabian a stern look. "Since you've secured the project, do a good job."
"Yes, yes!" Fabian beamed, nodding repeatedly. "Ron, about the fundingโฆ"
"Everything must go by the book. You'll receive the funds after completing the paperwork," Cameron said impatiently, frowning.
"Yes, yes, I know." Fabian wanted to speak further, but Cameron, seeming busy, strode away.
Blocked by Cameron's men, Fabian consoled himself with the secured project. La Beautรฉ Group did nothing. Even though the paperwork seems legitimate, it's clear Cameron deliberately diverted the project to me, his brother-in-law. Considering Alexander's personality, it's unlikely he'd simply relinquish the contract.
Fabian had worried for days, but the company took no action. Learning Alexander hadn't returned from overseas, and there was no news of him, eased his concerns.
