Chapter 1625

Alexander smiled, nodded, and said, "I'm feeling much better." After a pause, he added, "The past few months must have been terrible for you." He spoke simply, yet meaningfully. His illness had prevented him from caring for his wife, making him feel like a burden. He had also gained a new understanding of Lily, though he regretted his weakened state. Heโ€™d always considered her strong, independent, and intelligent, believing himself powerful enough to protect her. His illness, however, revealed his own vulnerability and his dependence on Lily's strength. Between them, the question of dependence had never arisen; they had always supported and relied on each other.

"Don't be silly!" Lily chided him softly. Growing calmer, she rose, looked at him, and asked seriously, "Have you thought this through? Do you want to go with them? You don't even know who they are, do you?"

Alexander, seemingly sensing her concern, turned to her with a half-smile. "I don't need to know who they are. I'm okay as long as you're there."

Lily was shocked and scolded him, despite herself, "Do you even know what you're doing?"

Alexander turned his head and looked around, then said casually, "I'll go with you, but I hope you won't make things difficult for the people here." He lifted his gaze to Dr. Blanc, who stood before him; Dr. Blanc understood Alexander's unspoken request for a promise.

"Don't worry," Dr. Blanc said. "We're not a criminal organization. However, we must quarantine those in close contact with you for observation. I can only allow them to leave after at least a week."

Alexander quickly asked, "You'll provide them with proper food and accommodations, right?"

"Of course, don't worry!" Dr. Blanc nodded, reassuring Alexander and glancing at Lily. "She works at our research center and saw how we handled similar situations."

Though upset by Dr. Blanc's secrecy, Lily nodded; his statement was true. As a governmental institution, they followed standard operating procedures. Lily understood the rationale, though she struggled with the emotional acceptance.

"Good," Alexander murmured, looking away. "Greg, let's go with them."

With a large mask covering half his face, Greg remained silent, solemnly pushing Alexander's wheelchair forward.
