Chapter 1622

"It shouldn't be a big issue," Dr. Blanc said.

"How could it not be? Despite safety measures, we still know little about the virus, not to mention its high mutability. If we don't contain it effectively, it might spread andโ€ฆ"

"This is a special case. When he was discovered, professionals took full precautions, and I believe those in close contact did the same. However, for safety, we'll return them to the center for observation."

"Professionals?" Lily frowned. "Are you saying doctors accompanied the patient?"

Dr. Blanc paused, then said slowly, "You could say so."

Exhausted, he leaned back, closing his eyes. Lily wanted to ask more, but seeing his fatigue, she hesitated. Besides her questions, a growing sense of foreboding unsettled her.

The ambulance stopped, its doors opening to reveal a familiar-looking underground parking lot.

"Dr. Blanc?"

She turned as he exited, but he merely raised a hand. "Let's go upstairs."

Inside the elevator, she watched one of them press a button. The ascent filled her with increasing unease.

"Dr. Blancโ€ฆ" she began, but the elevator dinged, its doors opening to reveal bodyguards barring their exit.

"What are you doing here? This is the private ward area. No visitors!"

"We're here to collect patient number 58. These are our credentials." One of the workers presented identification, but the bodyguards remained firm.

"I don't care who you are. No one is allowed in!"

"We are government officials, and you're obstructing our duty."

The bodyguards ignored them, stubbornly blocking their path. Dr. Blanc turned to Lily.

"You'd understand, wouldn't you?"

Speechless, Lily stepped forward, catching the bodyguards' attention. Despite her hazmat suit, her face was visible, and they were stunned.

"Ma'am?"

As the bodyguards hesitated, the group attempted to enter, but Lily stopped them. Staring at Dr. Blanc, she said grimly, "I just don't understand."
