Chapter 1601
"Sorry, I'm busy," she said, attempting to leave. She was rushing to the X Department.
Mike grabbed her wrist. "It's important."
Lily frowned at his touch. "You know what I'm capable of. Don't make me hurt you."
Seeing her expression, he slowly released her. She turned, having no intention of staying.
"Don't you want to know the lab's secrets?" Mike called out.
Lily stopped and turned, her eyes narrowed. "What are you playing at?"
"Don't you want to know what kind of virus infected Alex?" His words were tempting; he knew about Alexander's illness, a secret Lily had diligently guarded.
After hesitating, she agreed. She didn't trust Mike, but he seemed closer to the truth than she was. Should I trust him? Is this a trap?
"I just want to talk. Let's find a nearby placeโyour choice. This isn't convenient," Mike said sincerely, adding, "With your skills, I couldn't hurt you even if I wanted to." It was true.
Lily considered it, then said, "Let's go."
She remembered a restaurant near the hospital. It was lunchtime, but she was pressed for time. They chose a quieter spot in the crowded restaurant. Lily quickly ordered several dishes. After pouring and sipping her tea, she looked at Mike.
"Spit it out!"
He laughed, refilling her cup. "Don't interrogate me. We're old friends, after all."
"Old friends? We're familiar, now?" Lily retorted sarcastically. "I don't have friends like you."
"Lily, I didn't deliberately hide it. I have my reasonsโ"
She interrupted. "I know everyone has difficulties, but I'm not here to listen to your struggles. Was this plague lab-engineered? What kind of virus is it?"
Lily was direct. She wanted answers and to leave quickly.
Mike looked a little embarrassed. "The lab isn't what it seems. There are things you don't know, things neither of us can stop."
"I'm not trying to stop it," Lily replied, rolling her eyes. "I just want to know if it originated there."
"Yes," Mike answered unexpectedly, then added, "But no."
"Huh?" Lily stared at him suspiciously.
