"What if you have to choose?" Olivia's unusual stubbornness was jarring; she was typically mellow. Her persistence was out of character.

"If he and I were in conflict, on opposing sides, who would you choose? What if... what if we become enemies?" Her anxiety and anger escalated with each word.

"You won't become enemies!" Lily interrupted. "I won't let that happen! You're not unreasonable, and neither is he. If a conflict arises, I'll help resolve the misunderstanding.
