Chapter 155

Jenny, quite dehydrated, revived herself with a large glass of water. "This place is rightly famous," she said. "The variety of flowers is impressive, and the fragrance is exquisite."

She then began haggling. "I'll write down the quantities I need first. How about a 20 percent discount on your original price?" She gestured for a lower price.

The seller hesitated. "That's a little low. Ten percent is the best we can offer. That's the best deal you'll find."

Jenny countered, "Frankly, it's not the lowest market price, but I like your products. We're looking for a long-term relationship. Give us a little extra margin, wouldn't you?"

After a pause, she added, "We didn't come here specifically to find suppliers. I could easily give the list to my company, and their procurement department would negotiate with you. The terms wouldn't be as favorable as my offer."

(The seller knew the procurement department's rigorous protocols and skilled negotiators.) "Okay!" he said, slightly embarrassed. "Is that all you need? Anything else?"

Jenny was about to decline when she saw Lily standing silently. "We'll look around," she said. "Do you have any uniquely scented flowers or plants?"

"We do," the seller replied, "but they may not be unique to experts like yourselves."

Large nurseries like this usually stocked specialty plants appealing to botanists. However, plants special to most people might not impress experts.

"It doesn't matter," Lily said. "I'd like to see them."

Jenny and Lily, guided by the seller, entered the greenhouse. Despite the sunshine, the air circulation prevented stuffiness.

He called, "Ben! Ben!" Ben soon appeared.

Lily recognized the man who'd picked them up from the flower field earlier. His sweat-soaked sweatshirt showed he'd been working. He laughed, "Oh, it's you again!"

The seller instructed, "These guests want to see some rare plants. You can show them."

"No problem," Ben replied cheerfully, washing his hands. "This way, please."

The greenhouse plants differed from those outsideโ€”more delicate, with stricter sun and rain requirements, and far more expensive.

After a while, Lily found nothing she liked. Jenny had a few choices, but needed to negotiate prices. "That's most of them!" Ben said, scratching his head. "We do have a red sandalwood variant. Would you like to see it?"

"You have that, too?" Jenny said. "It's expensive, but not particularly rare."

"Yes, but ours is different from those outside. We cultivated it ourselves, so you won't find it elsewhere," Ben said carefully, avoiding a definitive claim.
