"Then... What's going on?" Maria was perplexed.

"It's nothing serious. People die and disappear every day. We're here to discuss the vaccine development project. Uncle Cameron, you shouldn't stray from the subject," Rhea stated unconcernedly.

Fabian, growing suspicious, abruptly refocused. "Yes, Ron, she's right. That missing man's affairs are irrelevant. We're here to discuss the vaccine project. It doesn't matter if someone is missing or dead. If I don't get this project, my whole family will starve!"

"So, the life and death of others are unimportant?" Cameron inquired, raising an eyebrow.

"Why would it concern us? The miracle doctor's only connection is treating Tasia. Even if he disappeared, it's not our problem. Aren't the police investigating? We can only help look for him, right?" Fabian glanced at Maria, seeking her intervention.

Cameron seemed concerned about the miracle doctor. Shouldn't he feel indebted, considering they invited him?

Maria nodded hastily. "Yes. The miracle doctor is my friend. I'm distraught he's missing; I just learned about it. Don't worry, I'll have someone investigate. But let's focus on the project. Ron, you've seen our struggles for years. You know how hard it's been."

"I know it's been hard for you, too, caring for Tasia after your wife left. We've helped you, so I hope you'll help us," she appealed, patting her chest. "We're in dire straits; otherwise, we wouldn't be asking..."

"Haven't you asked for favors before?" Cameron interjected, a faint smile playing on his lips. Dusting his knees, he continued, "That project in the eastern suburbs this year. Hyderland last year. The year beforeโ€ฆ"

Fabian's face darkened; he wiped sweat profusely.

Cameron noted his embarrassment. "I've given you chances. You received projects when you met requirements. But which one did you excel in?"

"Ronโ€ฆ"

"Didn't you always come begging me to clean up your messes?" Cameron pressed. "This vaccine project is heavily scrutinized and involves lives. How can I simply hand it to you? You don't meet the standardsโ€”insufficient funds, your company lacks capability. It's understandable you didn't get the project."

He turned away, seemingly finished.

Fabian was speechless. It was true, but not his fault. Oversights and accidentsโ€”bad luck, not incompetenceโ€”had plagued him. Cameron's words were harsh.

"Ron, give me another chance! I'll do better!" Fabian pulled Rhea aside. "Rhea will be involved. The research institute will collaborate. If you don't trust me, trust Rhea! She won awards abroad and now works here. Our country needs her! You always say to give credit where it's due. Ron, you're our national role model!"

Rhea remained seated, allowing her father's praise, quietly observing Cameron.

He looked at her, a cryptic smile touching his lips. "Yes, I believe in Ree's abilities. After all, she's my nieceโ€ฆ"
