Chapter 1514

At the mention of "miracle doctor," Lily was reminded of Austin and sighed inwardly, unsure of his well-being. "Then...has your father investigated it?" she asked Anastasia.

"No idea," Anastasia replied, shaking her head. "He was shocked and angry when he found out about the poisoning, but he hasn't talked about it since. Perhaps he saw I was getting better and decided to let it go."

Lily shook her head, puzzled. "That's unlikely. Mr. Rollins is so protective of you; he wants you hospitalized even for minor injuries. How could he not investigate the chronic poisoning? If he doesn't talk about it, he's probably doing so secretly, or biding his time for… revenge?" She had seen such controlled patience in Alexander and knew these seemingly calm men could be ruthless when seeking vengeance. They could erupt like a volcano and become unstoppable. "Well, all I know is that he hasn't mentioned it again," Anastasia conceded, deciding not to dwell on it.

"How did you know I was injured?" she asked.

"I wanted to visit, but you didn't answer my calls. When I called your house, I was told you were injured and hospitalized. What happened?" Lily asked nervously. "How could you get injured at home? Were you feeling dizzy or unwell?" She held Anastasia's wrist, wanting to check her condition.

"I'm fine," Anastasia said resignedly, letting Lily hold her hand. "I fell down the stairs by accident. It was nothing."

"How was it nothing if you fell down the stairs? If you weren't feeling dizzy or unwell, why would you have fallen?" Lily disagreed.

Carefully checking Anastasia's pulse, Lily felt it was steady and stronger than days before. She thought that if Anastasia continued to improve, she could eliminate the remaining toxins. Reassured, Lily released her hand. "Tell me. What happened?"

"It's… my cousin," Anastasia began, pausing momentarily, hesitant to speak ill of her.

"Rhea Moore?" Lily was surprised Anastasia mentioned someone she'd only met the day before. She thought Rhea hadn't spent much time with Anastasia.

"Uh-huh."

"Why was she in your house? What was she doing?" Lily asked after a pause. Then, a thought occurred to her. "Are you saying Rhea pushed you down the stairs?"

"Not exactly. We had a minor scuffle, and I fell accidentally," Anastasia admitted, embarrassed at being overpowered by Rhea.

"A scuffle?" Lily questioned.

Anastasia nodded and gave Lily a brief account of the incident. "I truly have no idea which pen holder she was talking about. I did go to her house, but I hadn't seen it. I wonder why she was so angry."

"Just because of a pen holder?" Lily was astonished. "Although the Moore family isn't super rich, they're well-to-do and could surely afford to lose a pen holder. However, based on what you said, Rhea seemed to care about it a lot. There must be more to it than meets the eye!"

"Yeah. I have no idea why she cared so much," Anastasia said, bewildered. "Aunt Maria offered to make an identical one for her, but she didn't want it and insisted on searching my house! Of course, I couldn't let her do that; it was so rude."

"Lily, do you think my cousin has gone insane? Why would she want to do that?" Anastasia asked, distraught.

"Well… I'm afraid you have to ask her that," Lily replied meaningfully.

After leaving the hospital, Lily called Dominic. His call was answered quickly, but the voice on the other end was not his. "Hello? Who are you?" she asked.

"Mommy!" A childish voice melted Lily's heart.

"Who do you think I am?" Lily responded, amusement in her tone.

"Mommy! I miss you so much, Mommy!"

"I miss you too, Galen. Have you been a good boy at Grandpa's?" Galen remained silent.
