Chapter 1504

The following morning, Maria freshened up, ate breakfast, and applied her makeup. She was about to leave for a shopping trip with friendsโ€”a much-needed outing after a busy period tending to Anastasia's affairs. The prospect of this had beckoned for a long time, and they had finally arranged to meet.

โ€œIโ€™m going to have such a good time today!โ€ With that thought, she grabbed her bag and headed for the door.

Just as she was leaving, she heard hurried footsteps. Someone quickly entered the house. Joy flooded Mariaโ€™s face as she recognized the newcomer.

โ€œRee! Youโ€™re back!โ€

โ€œYeah,โ€ Rhea replied, immediately ascending the stairs.

โ€œRee, youโ€™re not returning to the institute, are you? Will you be staying home longer this time?โ€ Maria asked, already accustomed to Rheaโ€™s abruptness. She followed her daughter upstairs. Rhea didnโ€™t respond, continuing her quick ascent.

โ€œI saw the news. Something happened to a professor at your institute, right? Will you continue the experiment, or will it stop? You should use this chance to rest. Look at youโ€”youโ€™ve lost weight again!โ€ Maria continued, unfazed by Rheaโ€™s silence.

Reaching Rheaโ€™s room, Rhea rushed to her desk. Her expression changed as her gaze swept across the surface.

โ€œWhereโ€™s my pen holder?โ€

โ€œWhat was that?โ€ Maria blinked, confused.

โ€œMy pen holder! The one I put on my desk!โ€ Rhea roared, slapping the desk. Her expression was terrifying.

Maria was startled by her daughterโ€™s outburst. โ€œI-I donโ€™t know,โ€ she stammered.

โ€œHow could you not know?โ€ Rhea slammed her palm on the desk again, her frustration evident. She searched franticallyโ€”the table, cabinets, drawers, even the bookshelvesโ€”her room quickly becoming a mess.

โ€œI placed it here! How could it be missing? Did you come into my room when I wasnโ€™t around? Did you touch my things?โ€ Rheaโ€™s voice rose to a shriek.

Maria was frightened. Sheโ€™d never seen this side of Rhea. While Rhea had always been aloof and distant, sheโ€™d never displayed such raw rage.

โ€œN-No! I didnโ€™t! Since you told me not to, I wouldnโ€™t dare touch your things,โ€ Maria replied. After a pause, she added softly, โ€œI have no idea what pen holder youโ€™re talking about. Tell me about it. Is it expensive? Iโ€™ll buy you one even more expensive. Cheer up, Ree!โ€

โ€œBuy?!โ€ Rhea, still unable to locate the pen holder, looked up and sneered. โ€œDo you think you can buy everything in this world with your stupid money?โ€

Mariaโ€™s eyes filled with tears. โ€œRee, I know youโ€™re upset and think Iโ€™m biased, but Iโ€™ve explained it to you many times. Itโ€™s not what you think. You hate how your father and I prioritize money, but youโ€™ve benefited from it! Without our โ€˜stupid money,โ€™ could you have studied abroad? Could you have found such a good job? Could you be living so comfortably?โ€

Rhea scoffed. โ€œWhat? Are you trying to say Iโ€™m indebted to you, and Iโ€™ve spent too much of your money? Fine! Letโ€™s settle the accounts, and Iโ€™ll pay you back in full! You guys have that fat daughter anyway. You donโ€™t need me!โ€

Maria was stunned by her daughterโ€™s words.
