Chapter 1481
"All right, old man, stop nagging! I have to go home."
Wanting to speak with Thompson, she hurried, believing his message concerned Austin and possibly the lab's secret. She quickened her pace.
"No, the car key!" Dominic called, waving something. "Your car's a wreck. Take one of mine."
Touched by his gesture, Lily accepted the key.
"Old man..." she began.
"I know! Just go, stubborn girl. Remember, no matter how tough you are, you're pregnant. Your husband and son need you. Don't expect me to raise your child, okay?" His gruffness couldn't quite mask his concern.
"Relax. I'll be fine," Lily joked, trying to lighten the mood.
"You enjoy teasing me, huh?" Dominic grumbled, though his scowl softened. He waved her off, his gaze lingering with a worried expression.
The drive home was uneventful. Passing the accident site, she slowed. All traces of the collisionโdebris and skid marksโwere gone, as if professionally removed.
'Highly unusual! Not the Public Works Department, the police, or a Good Samaritan. The attackers covered their tracks. Who are they?'
Thompson hadn't arrived. Sheโd driven faster than him. She had the servants prepare tea and waited, but he didn't come. Growing anxious, she called, but got no answer. A bad feeling settled in. She immediately dispatched someone to find him.
'Driving normally, he should be back by now.'
The call came within five minutes. "Ma'am, something happened to Professor Thompson." Lilyโs grip tightened on the phone.
"What happened?"
"A traffic accident... He's been sent to the hospital; serious injuries."
"How?"
"Collision with a truck. It was awful. You'll see it on the news."
"Wait," Lily interrupted. "Which hospital?"
