Chapter 1475
After years of seclusion, Dominic finally broke his self-imposed confinement for the mother-son duo. He waved to Lily as she pulled her car over, reaching for her seatbelt.
"No, no, park inside! It's not safe outside," he cautioned.
Lily was surprised. "Grandpa, it's safe. The bad guys are gone."
Galen leaned out the window, exhilarated by his mother's escape. "Okay, okay, go inside first."
Dominic was shocked by the damage to Lily's car, instantly grasping the danger she had faced. Had his men not arrived in time, or had Lily's kickboxing skills failed her, the consequences could have been devastating.
He took Galen from Lily and carefully examined the toddler. Breathing a sigh of relief at his grandson's unscathed condition, he asked, "Good thing you're not hurt. Were you scared?"
Galen shook his head. "Nope!"
"Ha, you weren't scared, but I was terrified!" Dominic patted his chest, exaggerating his fright.
The toddler giggled. "Grandpa is a scaredy-cat!"
"Well, Grandpa is a scaredy-cat compared to you two, who dared to tangle with armed men!" Dominic looked at Lily. "Do you know who they are?"
Lily shook her head, sipping tea to compose herself. Reflecting on the incident, she sensed something suspicious but couldn't identify the pursuers.
"No matter who they are, attacking us with guns makes them serious enemies. I think you should go to the police!" Dominic insisted, his anxiety revealing his oversight in not reporting the incident already.
"Not yet," Lily replied.
The old man was puzzled.
"It's a serious matter. A police investigation might prevent me from leaving soon," Lily explained. "If I'm to go to Burnwken, I can't afford any complications. Besides, since they failed this time, I doubt they'll act rashly again. It was a sneak attack; another attempt would risk detection."
"You're still going?" Dominic was surprised by her determination.
"Yes, my travel arrangements are nearly complete. Galen will stay with you starting today. Please look after him for a few days, okay?" She gazed at her son, the parting painful, but Alexander's need for her outweighed her maternal reluctance.
"You..." Dominic looked at Lily's pregnant belly, speechless. "Even if you don't care about your safety, you should consider your unborn child! I didn't stop you before, but now people are trying to kill you! All of you! I'm afraid something might happen before you even get on a plane..." He trailed off, hissing in frustration.
"Forget what I said!" Lily chuckled, seeing his anxiety and regret. "There are few old people like you." She continued, "I'll be fine, old man. Don't worry. I know what I'm doing. Although Alex isn't here, his bodyguards are, and I can utilize his network. I'll arrange additional protection for the estate and myself, and find out who the culprits are!" She acknowledged her unpreparedness earlier but was confident of preventing future attacks.
"You..." Dominic sighed heavily, defeated. "Fine! Young people like you and Austin have your own ways of thinking and ignore advice. An old man's opinions are meaningless, so suit yourself!"
