Chapter 1461
Still, Lily wondered if Daisy was truly innocent. If not, what was her purpose here? If so, why was she tampering with locks? Lily glanced back at her son, lying soundly asleep, his head tilted to one side. It was as if the world's troubles held no sway over him.
She rose, tucked him in, and adjusted the surveillance camera's position. Bedrooms hadn't initially been monitored, but Lily's suspicions about Daisy had led her to install one in Galen's room. She wanted to keep Daisy close, to observe before acting. However, with the laboratory situation, the Burnwken incident, and other emerging threats converging, Lily worried about leaving Galen. What if I just find a reason to fire Daisy?
As this thought crossed her mind, a soft knock sounded on the door, followed by Daisy's voice.
"Madam?"
Lily rose, but checked on Galen before opening the door. He was still asleep, so she opened it gently, placed a finger to her lips, and slipped out.
"What is it?"
"Ms. Hart is here. She's waiting downstairs," Daisy replied.
Olivia?! Lily hadn't expected a visit from Olivia and assumed she must be worried about Edward.
"Okay," Lily said, and went downstairs.
Olivia satโor rather, hoveredโon the sofa. Upon seeing Lily, she sprang up, her anxiety palpable. Lily, though equally anxious, fought to remain calm, knowing panic would only exacerbate the situation.
"What are you doing here at this hour?" Lily asked. Her gaze fell on the untouched tea, suggesting Olivia's worry was genuine.
"Lily, tell me, did something happen to Edward?" Olivia asked, her voice laced with anxiety. One hand clutched Lily's shirt, the other clenched into a fist. Her red eyes revealed she had been crying.
"Didn't I tell you by phone that they're on a business trip? The factory is unaffected. Even with the plague spreading, not every city is infected. The Burnwken government is managing it. Besides, I've been following the news; the poison isn't fatal, just debilitating. Don't overthink. Take care of yourself and wait patiently for them to return."
"He's not coming back!" Olivia interrupted, her voice a low murmur.
Lily was stunned.
"What did you say?!"
"He can't come back. Something happened to him, didn't it?" Olivia's words tumbled out, frantic. "You must know something, but you're hiding it from me, right?! What happened to Edward? What happened to him?!"
Lily was taken aback as Olivia, overcome with emotion, grabbed and shook her.
"What's going on? Olivia, pull yourself together! What happened to you?!" Lily steadied Olivia, firmly holding her shoulders to calm her. But Olivia continued to sob, unresponsive.
This was no fleeting reaction; something significant must have occurred.
"Olivia, what's wrong? Did you see something, hear something, or did someone tell you something?"
Receiving no answer, Lily's eyes scanned Olivia, finally settling on her clenched fist. After a moment's hesitation, Lily gently pried open Olivia's fingers. Resting in her palm was Edward's wedding ring.
Did something really happen to Edward?!
