Chapter 1447

"It's fine. He's not heavy!" Dominic spun twice, demonstrating the child's weight.

"Aren't you afraid of hurting your back?"

"My back's fine. I'm far stronger than you young people!" The old man grinned. He often complained about Galen, but secretly loved him deeply; otherwise, he wouldn't have repeatedly protected him.

Lily shook her head, allowing them to play. Noticing she seemed better, Dominic asked no further questions, instead carrying Galen into the backyard. Worried, Lily followed.

The backyard was a vast herb garden, its scent faintly permeating the air.

"Did you use everything you took from me a few days ago?" Dominic asked calmly, gazing into the distance.

"Yes," Lily replied.

"How is it?"

"Pretty good. In a few days, the toxins should be flushed out, but after-effects will linger. It's not easy; a long way to go. I'm taking it one step at a time." She sighed.

"Well, at least we've solved the cause of the problem." The herbs that poisoned Anastasia were removed, the house cleansed and purified. Lily even checked for lingering strange smells before feeling relieved. However, she still needed to find who poisoned Anastasia and their motive, but lacked the time to investigate thoroughly.

"What about your lab?" Dominic asked, his concern evident despite his few questions. He remembered everything she'd told him.

"Didn't Austin restore the data? I haven't visited yet. They might still be experimenting." Lily had considered destroying the database but hesitated. Even then, others held records; incomplete, perhaps, but the researchers involved couldn't be eliminated. As long as they were determined, the experiment would continue.

"Have you given up?" Dominic turned, noticing the discouragement in her voice. "You don't seem like someone who gives up easily."

"What other choice do I have?" she smiled wryly. "I can't stop the project. It's just a gut feeling, but I lack evidence. What can I report?" Reporting to the police seemed pointless; the lab wasn't solely Thompson's; who knew who backed him? Dominic continued playing with Galen. It was a picturesque scene: an old man with a child, the mother watching.

After a silence, Lily quietly asked, "Don't you think things have been too coincidental recently?"

Dominic, surprised, turned, seemingly confused.

"All of this... could they be connected? Everything seems too coincidental." Lily mused.
