Chapter 1399

"Yes, yes, you're not stupid!"

However, Maria couldn't help but grumble, "If you're not stupid, how could you be poisoned for so long without knowing?"

"Pardon?" Anastasia feigned ignorance.

"Nothing!" Maria waved dismissively.

"But this medicine..."

"I'll bring the medicine to Lily's house daily. From tomorrow onward, I won't be home as much. You shouldn't bother coming over so often. Call if anything's urgent," Anastasia reminded her aunt.

"The miracle doctor advised you not to eat outside and stay at home..."

"He also said I was poisoned, didn't he?" Anastasia interrupted. "I think he wasn't thinking straight that day. It's more dangerous for me to be at home than outside."

"Tasia..."

"Aunt Maria, I know you're worried. What the miracle doctor said makes sense; he's afraid I'll lose control eating outside. It'll be fine if I don't eat! I've already told Lily I'll continue controlling my food. You don't need to worry about me overindulging." Anastasia understood her aunt's tendency to be overly concerned. The more she was pressed, the more she'd fuss. A little appeasement would be more effective.

Maria was silent for a moment. "Did you tell Lily you're poisoned?"

"No," Anastasia shook her head. Lily already knew, even before Austin. Regarding her diet, Anastasia had been carefully controlling her food intake and calorie consumption. Lily, anticipating boredom, had even stocked her house with books on calorie intake and human physiology to help Anastasia learn.

Anastasia, initially finding the books tedious and falling asleep after a few pages, gradually became more engaged. She discovered much helpful information, particularly regarding calorie counts. Initially overwhelmed by the perceived high calorie content of everything, she learned about basal metabolic rates. Even at rest, the body burns calories, and her rate, given her height and weight, was over 2000 calories daily. Eating within that range prevented weight gain, offering a broader range of food choices than she'd previously imagined. She hadn't realized this before; perhaps she'd been told, but hadn't listened.

Now, she was actively learning to understand and work with her body, no longer viewing it as an enemy. Her anxiety was gradually subsiding.

Maria nodded. "That's good. However, you shouldn't go over there so often. The Russell family's facing some bad luck soon, and Lily might pester you for favors then."
