Chapter 1318
Anastasia didn't know what was wrong. Years of seeking help from conventional specialists and alternative healers, even trying the gym, had yielded no solution. Besides obesity, she was weak and prone to fainting. Alternative practitioners diagnosed a lack of vitality; specialists cited hormonal imbalances. Numerous diagnoses and treatments had failed.
Initially, her father hadn't restricted her diet. But witnessing her declining health over the past two years, he implemented a strict plan, mirroring his department's rigorous approach. He believed disciplineโdiet and exerciseโwas key, and though Anastasia's condition precluded exercise, he controlled her food intake, hoping to achieve weight loss.
The initial results were promisingโan eleven-pound loss in half a month. However, progress stalled, and she began gaining weight again. Cameron, upset and anxious, suspected she was eating secretly or that the diet wasn't strict enough; he even considered further restriction.
For two years, Anastasia had been increasingly unhappy. If not for the birthday dress and subsequent encounter with Lily, she would have remained isolated. The shared blueberry mousse had been a highlight, fostering an indescribable trust. Lilyโs calm presence and seemingly effortless support made Anastasia long for her as a savior. Hearing Anastasiaโs story, Lily recognized the pattern but sensed that severe restrictions would only intensify cravingsโanything defying human nature was unsustainable.
"Lily," Anastasia pleaded, "I have no friends. I connect with you; your words resonate. You've never looked down on me or flattered me. What you said makes sense. Will you help me?"
Her eyes were filled with helplessness. Lily gently took Anastasia's hand, aware of its delicate softness despite her size. Anastasia instinctively tried to pull away, but Lily held on.
"Let me feel your wrist, if you'd like my help," Lily said simply, avoiding mentioning taking her pulse.
Hesitantly, Anastasia offered her hand, revealing her wrist. Lily carefully placed three fingers on the thick wrist, searching for the pulseโa challenge given the substantial fatty layer that might elude an inexperienced practitioner.
Concentrating, Lily found the pulse and held her fingers there. Noticing Lily's serious expression, Anastasia, though curious, remained silent. When Lily released her wrist, Anastasia eagerly asked, "Were you taking my pulse?"
Lily looked at her quietly.
"I've seen alternative practitioners; they checked my pulse that way," Anastasia explained, blushing slightly. "They said I was too fat, it was hard to find. So, were you? Did you find it?"
"Don't be nervous. I'm not a doctor, and you're not my patient. I just think your lifestyle is unhealthy, and I want to help you make some adjustments."
