Chapter 131
Backing down was impossible. Conscious of the audience's gaze, Melanie forced herself to recall the process and remain calm. This wasn't just about sampling the fragrance, stating a few words, or identifying the formula. What if she said something wrong and couldn't retract it? The tension was overwhelming; even holding the test strip made her hands tremble. After completing the procedure, a faint aroma lingered. She carefully considered the ingredients, crafting a brief descriptionโbetter than silence.
"Ms. Thayer?"
"I like this fragrance," she responded quickly. "Light, elegant scents are my preference, and this one has captivated me. The perfumer, I imagine, values peace and serenity, enjoying a serene garden with birds and flowers. It has the delicate fragrance of chrysanthemums; I believe it contains essential oils extracted from dried chrysanthemums."
Though her opening sentence was composed, her subsequent remarks lacked confidence. Her question was tentative. She didn't know what to say, but silence or rambling were unacceptable. Completing the challenge was paramount.
"This" The host hesitated, Melanie's heart pounding. "I don't know the ingredients, but Ms. Thayer's description sounds delightful! Let's invite the creator to answer in person and see how accurate she is!"
The pressure eased, then intensified. Melanie hoped her speculations were correct, or at least the creator would be merciful, given her earlier flattery.
A person casually walked onstage to cheers. Melanie didn't dare look, remaining stiffly smiling and applauding. Her cheeks burned, but she forced composure, maintaining a pleasant, confident expression. Regardless of the creator's response, she would stand tall and speak with assurance.
"Welcome! Let's welcome the creator himselfโMr. Moreauโto introduce the fragrance personally!"
The host's words surprised Melanie. She spun around to see a familiar face. Frank, taking the microphone, smiled.
How could it be him?
Frank glanced at Melanie, paused, then addressed the audience.
"First, I'm grateful for the invitation. It's an honor. Although I grew up in Westwood, essential oils have been a lifelong influence. I greatly appreciate Hyderland's culture and heritage," he said fluently in one breath. "This fragrance was inspired by a friend I met on my first trip to Hyderland."
He paused, smiled, turned to Melanie, and said, "Yes, as Ms. Thayer said, it's about peace and serenity. That way of life inspires me. I'm glad someone understands!"
He walked over, took Melanie's hand, and gazed deeply into her blue eyes. "Thank you, Ms. Thayer!"
