Chapter 13

The hotel served a wide selection of breakfast, which the couple enjoyed. Sunshine streamed through the window, creating a serene atmosphere.

"I'll be going to the company office later," Alexander said slowly, spreading butter on toast. "Let me give you a ride, since Rebirth is on the way." Lily took a sip of milk and shook her head quickly. "It's fine. I'm planning to go to Rebirth later this afternoon. Besides," she began, then abruptly stopped as Alexander looked up. She couldn't finish her sentence. Alexander handed her the buttered toast, then retracted his hand. "Don't worry. I'm a man of my word. Only Rebirth's management knows La Beautรฉ Group has invited you. Edward informed them, so they don't know that"

He raised an eyebrow, his casual glance making her heart skip. "You're my wife." He paused, the four words hanging in the air.

Lily's heart pounded. He's such a good flirt! she thought.

Alexander seemed a reserved man. His words might seem insignificant, but recalling them would inexplicably cause one to blush.

"That's great," Lily said, her gaze flitting nervously to her food. She quickly finished her toast. "I'm done. I'm going to make a call."

Since Lily was leaving MN Inc., she needed to settle her affairs to avoid disrupting Olivia's work. Checking her phone, she found twenty missed calls from Nathaniel. Shock gave way to a smirk.

She had muted her phone yesterday after getting in the car, wanting some peace. She suspected Nathaniel would contact her, but not to this extent.

His anxiety seemed genuine. He rarely called her first, even during their long relationship, and those calls were usually work-related.

Lily was about to go to her home screen when another call came inโ€”from Nathaniel, as expected.

Hmph, that was quick, she thought.

She looked at the incoming call, then at Alexander, who was calmly finishing his breakfast. He looked like a prince from a fairytaleโ€”elegant, graceful, and impossibly noble. After a moment's consideration, she answered.

After last night's competition, there was no turning back. Since she wasn't actually Alexander's wife, she no longer needed to hide anything from him. Her feelings for Alexander were sincere; she had nothing to fear.

"Hello?" she answered.

"Lily, where are you?" Nathaniel's voice was hoarse, betraying a restless night. "What can I help you with, Mr. Hall?" Lily countered, feigning ignorance. "Lily, it's pointless to run away like this. Do you honestly think you can escape?" His words almost made her laugh. She hadn't committed any crimes, or done anything shameful. Why would she run away? "Run away? Why would I do that?"
