Chapter 1273

"How come the mosquito bump grew so big?" She pressed it gently.

"How do you know it's a mosquito bite, not a..." He paused, a hiss escaping despite himself.

"Not what?" Lily removed her hand, turning to him. "What is it?"

"Doesn't it look like something else? Doesn't it make you suspect anything?"

Lily found his behavior odd. He used to be so straightforward. Why is he being so secretive?

"What exactly are you talking about?"

Seeing her impatience, Alexander blurted out, "Don't you think it looks like a... love bite?"

"A what?" Lily blinked, responding instinctively, "You think something else bit you?"

Alexander was speechless.

Her realization dawned slowly. "Oh, you mean a hickey!"

"Yes, I suppose so..." He felt foolish. Why am I trying to make her suspicious when she wouldn't suspect a thing? Would I feel better if she scratched my face like Olivia did to Edward?

Lily stared, finding him both ridiculous and amusing.

"Forget it. I was just teasing. It's better you didn't think so." He waved dismissively, turning away. Lily stopped him from lying down and handed him a mirror. "Look!"

"What?"

"Look for yourself!" She held the mirror closer. "Have you ever seen a hickey this size? Who could leave such a huge mark with a kiss? Does she have a stinger in her mouth, and buzz when she sings?" Alexander was mortified. He saw the "love bite" in the mirror.

What the hell? It's redder and much more swollen than before!

"How did it get so big?" It throbbed slightly when he touched it.

"The poison in her mouth must be potent, eh?" Lily retrieved some cream and gently applied it, teasing him. The cooling sensation soothed the pain. He stretched, muttering, "This is all Edward's fault."

"What does Edward have to do with it?" He spoke softly, but she heard him.

Her curiosity piqued, especially after her recent phone conversation with Olivia, she pressed him.

Alexander explained how a mosquito had bitten Edward, and how Olivia had scratched his face due to a misunderstanding. He omitted Edward's claim that Olivia's actions were an act of love. If I told Lily that, she'd know I asked her that question to see if she'd get jealous. I was rather childish.

Initially shocked, Lily doubled over with laughter. "So that's what this was all about?! There's more to this story than you're letting on."

"What do you mean?"
