Chapter 1264
Dominic wanted to curse Alexander upon seeing Lily's burgeoning belly. "The Russell family isn't about to die out," he muttered. "What's the rush in making babies?" But Dominic was Lily's teacher; he had no authority in this matter. Besides, he could imagine Wilfred, were he still alive, gleefully boasting about his great-grandchildren. "Oh, Wilfred..." Dominic's eyes clouded with sadness. "Our short lives are full of endless encounters and separations."
He hadn't met the right woman since dedicating himself to herbal medicine. He would have missed her otherwise. Therefore, he'd remained alone, possessing only several manors and countless exotic plants. "Oh, yes, and several students!" he mused, a touch of melancholy in his voice. "Scattered worldwide, but only Lily visits occasionally."
Mention of her child reminded Lily she wasn't alone; she was living with a restless, mischievous boy. "He's full of curiosity," she murmured. "What if..."
"Then you give that to me," Lily said, pointing at the wilfordi. Before Dominic could respond, she added, "But I'll leave it here and study it as needed."
"That's a great idea!" Dominic exclaimed, slapping his thigh with delight. "Why didn't I think of that? I can lure her over with the vine and have someone to talk to. Alas, I must be getting old! My brain isn't functioning as well as it used to." "So it's a deal then. You look after it, and if anything happens to it, I'll..."
"You'll what? Sever your ties with me? Or betray me?" Dominic challenged, chin lifted.
Lily smiled sweetly. "What are you saying? Am I that kind of person?"
"Youโ"
Before he could finish, Lily continued, "I just think you must be bored living alone. Why don't I bring Galen over to keep you company for a few days?"
Dominic looked horrified, waving his hands repeatedly. "No, no, there's no need! Your son is still young and needs his parents. I'm too oldโI mean, I can't properly care for him. I'm far better with my plants!"
"That's right! I'll take good care of the vine, so don't worry. As for your beloved son, you and Alex should look after him yourselves."
Lily noticed Dominic's terrified expression, a slight curl to her lips. She was about to speak when a housekeeper hurried over. "Sir?"
"What's the matter?" Dominic frowned, his voice sharp. "Didn't I tell you not to disturb me when I have a guest?"
"It's the young master. He's been waiting some time. Are you..." The housekeeper trailed off, inquiring if Dominic wished to see the guest. Surprised, Dominic subconsciously glanced at Lily, who had just mentioned that very person.
If Lily hadn't already guessed who the "young master" was, Dominic's glance confirmed it.
Lily waved. "I've been here quite a while, so I should be going. Go meet your guest."
