Chapter 1238

"Don't change the subject!"

Alexander laughed heartily. He knew she was feigning annoyance, but he was still amused. He enjoyed her occasional jealousy; otherwise, he'd worry she valued her plants more than him. He explained, solemnly, "This girl's profile picture is so gloomy. It's unusual."

Lily glanced at him, then back at her phone. He was right. The profile picture was dark and grayโ€”a gloomy sky and a puppy huddled beside a broken flower pot. It was undeniably heartbreaking.

Lily knew Anastasia was young, perhaps seventeen or eighteen, and from a wealthy family. She should be vibrant and carefree, yet this persona was incongruous with that image. Furthermore, Anastasia's text message had been cold and curt: just one wordโ€”"Dress."

Lily understood immediately. Alexander, however, was confused. "What does 'dress' mean?"

"I stole her dress," Lily muttered, turning away.

Alexander's eyes widened. "You stoleโ€ฆ?" He was speechless. What kind of dress would necessitate theft? Had there been a fight? He scanned her anxiously. "Was there a squabble? Are you hurt?"

Lily was speechless for a moment before summarizing, "That's not what I meant! She ordered a dress from a store, but I bought it today." She knew the store wouldn't admit their mistake and would likely blame her, but she didn't yet know what they'd told Anastasia.

Alexander breathed a sigh of relief. "That's all? It's just a dress. I'm glad you're okay."

"She's Secretary Rollins' daughter. Aren't you going to reprimand me for stealing her dress?" Lily was surprised by his lack of concern. The other party's identity was clearly significant.

Alexander remained calm. "Why would I? It's just a dress. Do you think this will affect my relationship with Secretary Rollins, the Russell family, or our businesses?"

Lily nodded silently; that was precisely her concern.

Alexander pinched her cheek. "You idiot, there are so many layers to business. It would be ridiculous to let a dress dictate events! Besides, I know you wouldn't act unreasonably. There's always a reason."

His unwavering trust touched Lily. He hadn't even questioned her actions, simply accepting her judgment.

Suppressing tears, she teased, "What if I am unreasonable?" Her eyes sparkled with mischief.

Alexander sighed softly. "Then what else can I do? You're my wife and my son's mother. I chose you. I'll just have to continue pampering you!"
