Chapter 1230

However, it no longer mattered. Lily planned to wait ten more minutes; if the man didn't appear, she wouldn't blame him. She would simply let it go.

"You're right, Mrs. Moore, but I still think you shouldn't be so persistent," Jared said flatly, patting her shoulder.

"Mr. Langston, you can't understand how I feel. Tasia is my niece, but I love her like a daughter. If Mr. Fike still practiced, I wouldn't have pinned my hopes on this young man."

The woman sighed melancholically.

"Don't worry too much. I'm sure Ms. Rollins will be fine!" The sound of departing footsteps faded. They had left.

Lily glanced at the time and was about to leave when a sharp voice interrupted. "Are you eavesdropping?!"

The voice was unfriendly, startling Lily. She turned to see a woman standing beside her.

The woman appeared elegant and sophisticated, wearing a dress from Chanel's latest collection and gold jewelry. She regarded Lily with dissatisfaction. Her expression, however, didn't match the anxious tone she'd used earlier.

"I was here first," Lily said, gesturing to her untouched food. "And it wasn't a serious conversation; we were just discussing the secret apprentice."

The woman's gaze swept over Lily before she asked arrogantly, "Which family are you from?" Most attendees were from medical families; those from other fields were usually renowned.

"I'm from the Christian family," Lily replied. The research institute had invited her; she wasn't affiliated with any established family, having adopted the surname herself.

"The Christian family?!" The woman frowned, searching her memory. "I've never heard of them!" Besides Dominic, who remained reclusive, she knew most prominent medical families. The unfamiliar name immediately marked Lily as an outsider.

"This is a rare opportunity. Observe carefully, and keep your opinions to yourself, understand?"

Though Lily found the instruction slightly amusing, she nodded cooperatively. "I understand."

Satisfied by Lily's obedience, the woman turned away, noticing someone entering the banquet hall.
