Chapter 119
"Mr. Hall?" Olivia blinked, trying to clear her head. "Why are you at my house?"
"I heard you're on leave. I should check on my subordinates, shouldn't I?" He knew she was peering through the peephole, so he leaned against the door. His suddenly enlarged face startled Olivia, and she took two steps back. "You!"
"Olivia, are you planning to keep me standing outside?"
"Mr. Hall, I'm sick and home alone. It's not a good time." She didn't want to open the door or speak further with Nathaniel. It was unwise of him to come; everything that needed saying had been said long ago. Fortunately, her mother had gone out to buy vegetables. Otherwiseโฆ
Speaking of the devil, a voice called from outside, "Who is this?"
Mother?
"Hello, I'm Olivia's boss. My name is Hall, and I'm the president of MN Inc." Nathaniel's voice sounded.
"Oh, Mr. Hall!" Olivia's mother exclaimed enthusiastically. "Why are you standing there? Olivia's home! Oh, she must have fallen asleep and didn't hear you. I'll open the door!"
Olivia had no choice. She quickly tiptoed back to her room and closed the door.
"Mr. Hall, please come in and sit down!" Olivia's mother said warmly. She put down her vegetables and called for her daughter, "Olivia! Olivia! Mr. Hall is here!"
There was no reply. Olivia's mother turned to Nathaniel, embarrassed. "Please have a seat. She must be having a pleasant dream. I'll call her again!"
"Really? I thought I heard her speaking just now," Nathaniel said with a small smile, sitting on the sofa. Olivia knew it was futile to hide any longer. She changed into appropriate clothes and opened the door. "Mom."
"Dear, Mr. Hall is here," her mother winked, then went to boil water for tea.
"Mr. Hall," Olivia approached reluctantly, remaining standing. Nathaniel crossed his legs, looked up at her, and smiled slightly. "Olivia, haven't you been feeling well recently?"
Olivia's mother, arriving with tea and fruit, overheard and exclaimed, "No, Olivia is fine."
"Really? Olivia has been on frequent sick leave lately. I was concerned, so I came to see what was wrong." He feigned surprise. Frequent sick leave? Olivia's mother was also surprised and turned to Olivia. "What's wrong with you? Where do you hurt?"
"Mom, I'm fine," she frowned, speaking softly.
Her mother wouldn't understand work matters, and Olivia didn't want to worry her. That's why Olivia would spend her sick days away from home. She still had enough money to enjoy her leave.
Olivia felt that with their patience, she would be terminatedโand freeโin less than a month.
