Chapter 1178
Ralph nodded. "I am! Of course, I'm happy! It's just that I agree with her. I'm a loser, and I've been a failure my whole life!" Looking down at his hands, he felt utterly powerless. It was depressing and frustrating.
"Don't listen to her!" Hannah scowled. "She's just putting on a brave face. When have you failed? You're standing here while she lies alone in the dark. She's the loser here!"
"I have nothing. You're the only one who sees me. I'm a loser," Ralph mumbled bitterly.
"Who said you have nothing? You still have me!" She handed him an apple, smiling only after he took a bite. "Besides," she continued, "success and failure are temporary. Even if you have nothing now, it doesn't mean you won't have anything in the future. I didn't even have a life I could call my own until now, but look at me! Don't worry. I'll help you get back everything you deserve!"
Hearing this, Ralph laughed. "Yes, you're right. My Annie is the best!" His earlier curiosity returned. He'd seen Heather's power. How had she become paralyzed? How had Hannah done it?
"By the way," he asked tentatively, "how did your sister end up like this? Did she... lose her kickboxing skills?"
Hannah shook her head. "Not exactly, but you could say so. She's poisoned. Her body is extremely weak. It's hard to say how long she'll remain this way."
"Poisoned?!" Ralph sat upright in shock.
"Does she not look poisoned?" Hannah raised her gaze. "How did she not notice you poisoning her?"
Heather was always vigilant. She could detect subtle changes in someone's breathing, yet she hadn't noticed the poison?
"I did it over time," Hannah explained, glancing at Ralph. "Do you think I'm stupid? A large dose would be risky and easily detected. Small doses, however, go unnoticed. The poison penetrates the body slowly. Also, she was focused on the handbook, less vigilant. Furthermore..."
She paused, setting down the apple, the light in her eyes dimming. "I grew up with her. She probably wouldn't suspect...me poisoning her. She doesn't think I have the courage." Only then did Hannah dare act.
"I've endured so much," she took a deep breath, looking at him. "And you... you're the reason. I wanted to be with you, and if she tries to stop me, I'll kill her! Anyone who tries to stop us will die!"
The firmness in her voice frightened Ralph. The gentle lamb was biting back. He finally saw Hannah's ruthlessness.
