Chapter 1156

Although they weren't blood relatives, Margaret had raised Ralph as her own for many years, making it difficult for her to sever ties.

"Grandma, it's not my decision, but his. He hasn't resolved things and refuses to return home. Let's discuss it when he does, okay?" He added, "I need to go to the office now. Have a good rest, Grandma."

Lily entered, carrying food just as he was leaving.

"Please take care of her," he said before departing.

Lily hadn't heard their conversation but guessed its subject.

"Grandma, you must be hungry. Have some garlic bread and mushroom cream soup, but eat slowly."

Lily sat beside the bed, tray on her lap, dipping bread into the soup and offering it to Margaret, who wanted to take the entire plate.

"It's okay. You're pregnant. You don't need to serve me."

"Let me. I'm still early in my pregnancy, so don't worry," Lily chuckled.

"Stop insisting. I'll rest when you feel better, okay?"

Margaret relented, allowing Lily to feed her a slice of bread. Margaret gazed at her granddaughter-in-law with a smile. After recent events, her perspective had shifted dramatically.

I couldn't stand the sight of her before, but now she's a pleasure to look at.

Her face is flawless. This young woman has perfect, smooth skin, without a single blemish. Even pregnant, her figure is amazing; you wouldn't guess she's carrying from behind.

Lily's eyelashes fluttered as she looked down at the soup.

She's so beautiful. No wonder Alex likes her and listens to her.

"Grandma, open your mouth."

Lily offered Margaret more soup, noticing her unwavering gaze.

"Do I have something on my face?"

Margaret's intense stare made Lily question if she was dirty.

"No. I wondered why I didn't realize what a good granddaughter-in-law you've been. I shouldn't have made things so difficult for you." Margaret's voice held regret.

Stunned, Lily smiled and shook her head.

"No, you weren't making things difficult. I just saw it as a test."

Margaret had never truly made Lily's life miserable. While she had been unkind and haughty, Lily's resilience and Alexander's support minimized the hardship. In reality, Margaret was the one more affected by their conflict. Now that it was over, Lily had easily let go of any resentment.

"You're such a kind-hearted girl. Alex is a lucky man."

Margaret smiled, then her expression faltered.

"Too bad Ralph isn't as lucky."

She sighed deeply.

Thinking of that day, Lily said, "Don't be so negative. From what I saw, Ms. Riggs cares about him. She might be there for him when he needs her."
