Chapter 1126

"No, the outsider wouldn't be innocent," Ralph interrupted, preventing Alexander from swaying the elders. "What a joke. If the outsider were innocent, Alex would be, and everyone would forgive him. Then I couldn't claim my position as patriarch."

"If the outsider enjoyed our family's privileges, they are at fault. How can an outsider be so entitled? If they're an adult, they can support themselves. Having been nurtured by our family, they shouldn't take more."

His words clearly targeted Alexander. Several elders, recognizing his implication, regarded Alexander with unreadable expressions. If Ralph were correct, and Alexander wasn't a blood relative, who was he? Did this mean his mother had an affair?

Understanding Ralph's target, the elders remained silent. They would voice opinions concerning a branch family member, but this involved the family head himselfโ€”Alexander. His very existence was power; this issue could shatter the Russell family, so silence reigned.

Tension filled the room as Ralph continued his confrontation. The atmosphere was volatile, like a gas leak awaiting a spark.

Then, a housekeeper rushed in. "Mr. Alexander, Ms. Riggs is here. Her car is outside."

Ralph's eyebrows shot up in surprise. Heather's arrival, however, seemed opportune, and he welcomed her as a witness to his victory. He even smiled, pleased at the timing. "Bring her in immediately."

"This is a family meeting. Ms. Riggs shouldn't be here," someone protested.

"Ms. Riggs is my fiancรฉe, and we'll marry soon," Ralph explained smoothly. "She's practically family and can attend." The objections ceased.

Moments later, Heather entered, impeccably dressed in a custom suit, accompanied by two men bearing gifts. Surprised by the gathering, she walked toward Ralph.

"I apologize for the intrusion, but I brought gifts for Mrs. Russell. I hope she's well," she said politely. Many had heard of her, but this was their first encounter. Heather Riggs seemed unlike the rumors.

Ralph smiled. "You're too kind. We're family; no need for formality." Noticing the elders' scrutiny, he embraced Heather. "You must be tired from traveling. Please sit; let's finish our discussion."
