Chapter 1024
Moments ago, Heather had sent Hannah home; now, she wanted her at the company. A swift change of mind.
"Good to know," Heather emphasized, for perhaps the thousandth time. "Remember, I raised you. You do as I say. You're my shadow. Understand?" She wanted the message drilled into Hannah's head.
Hannah knew better than to overstep. "Yes, I understand! I am your shadow, and I exist only for you," she repeated mechanically.
Her meekness appeased Heather. "There are documents to process at the company. Chloe will guide you. Don't talk much, and return immediately after signing. You know the drill," Heather said with satisfaction.
"Yes!" Hannah nodded.
Heather waved her away, settling back down to recuperate. She needed two days; her dispatched spies needed time to work. By the time she healed, she'd have the information she sought.
Alexander's kickboxing prowess was formidable, but once she obtained the handbook, her aptitude and years of practice would surpass his. She would be unbeatable, reviving the art of kickboxing and showcasing its true form.
Meanwhile, Hannah was en route to the company. She mirrored Heather's attire so precisely that even the driver remained unaware of the deception. Few knew of Heather's twin. To the world, there was only one Ms. Riggs.
Hannah examined her reflection. The makeup, cool-toned and fierce, was a stark contrast to her usual pale complexion and her preference for warm tones. It was Heather's signature styleโa style Hannah could never adopt. She wasn't complacent; she was powerless. Heather's strength commanded even their parents' obedience. No one defied her.
Hannah's thoughts drifted back to childhood. She remembered receiving gifts from her parents: a custom kickboxing uniform for Heather, a lace ball gown for herself. It was the happiest birthday of her life, until she found her gown torn, its embellishments scattered. Heather stood by the door, watching her cry.
"You're too different," Heather had said. "From today, you wear what I wear, like what I like. You're my shadow!" That night, Hannah clung to her ruined dress and cried. She dared not object; she couldn't defeat her slightly older sister. Their parents favored Heather, the future heir of the Riggs family, the one who would secure their prosperity.
From that night, Hannah lost herself. She ceased to be Hannah Riggs, becoming instead, Heather's shadow.
