Chapter 69
โGloria, you wanted to see me?โ Amelia walked into the living room, well-dressed, and her eyes swept across the scene. Her gaze fell on several intimate photos scattered across the table and floor. At first glance, she almost thought she was looking at pictures of herself.
โSo this is Henryโs attempt to frame me? How amateur,โ Amelia thought with contempt.
Gloria stepped forward quickly and then hesitated, her eyes filled with conflict as she looked at Amelia, โAmyโฆโ
โGloria, if you canโt handle this, I will,โ Henry barked.
โNo.โ Gloriaโs response was immediate as she instinctively moved to stand between Amelia and Henry. No matter what Amelia did to the Kingsley family, Gloria would never hand her over to him.
Knowing Henryโs reputation with women and his darker proclivities, Gloria feared what might happen if Amelia fell into his hands.
โGloria, how can you still defend her after all this?โ Henryโs eyes raked over Amelia with a predatory smirk.
โAh, youthโฆso fresh and delicate, like a flower in bloom. The more I look, the more tempting she becomes,โ Henry thought.
โAmy, do you know this person?โ Gloria pointed at Lanny.
Ameliaโs face remained composed as she nodded. โIsnโt he the new employee at the company? Iโve run into him twice at the office.โ
โTwice?โ Henry sneered. โYouโve had a child together, and youโre still trying to lie your way out of this?โ
โMs. Edwards, Iโm sorry,โ Lanny added. โI didnโt want to betray you, but the truth was bound to come out sooner or later.โ
โWhat truth? Since when were we even close?โ Ameliaโs lips curved into a cold smile as she fixed him with an icy stare.
โOur relationship has been exposed.โ Lanny hung his head, his eyes darting nervously around the room, afraid to meet Ameliaโs gaze. โLetโs just admit it. Your plan to get pregnant with my child to steal Kingsley Groupโฆ Itโs over.โ
โAmelia, we have witnesses and evidence. What do you have to say for yourself?โ Henry snatched up several photos and threw them at her feet.
Amelia barely glanced at them before pulling out her phone and dialing. โHello, 911?โ
โWhat do you think youโre doing?โ Henryโs face darkened as he grabbed the phone from her hand.
โCall the police,โ Amelia said confidently. โLet them investigate where these photos came from.โ
Gloriaโs face lit up with relief as she clutched Ameliaโs arm. โAmy, theyโre trying to frame you, arenโt they?โ
โYes.โ Amelia looked at Gloriaโs tear-filled eyes without a hint of resentment. She understood how difficult it must be for Gloria to manage such a powerful family.
โAmyโฆโ Gloriaโs tears finally fell as guilt and sorrow overwhelmed her. โIโm so sorry. Itโs not that I didnโt trust youโฆโ
โGloria, I understand,โ Amelia said with a gentle smile. โWhen doubts like this come up, they need to be addressed properly.โ
โThe evidence is right here. You canโt get away with it.โ Henry slammed his fist on the table and bellowed. โGet her out of Kingsley!โ guards moved forward on command.
His two security personnel...
Gloria steadied herself and raised her hand with authority. In an instant, a line of security personnel formed a barrier between Henry and Amelia while others forcefully threw Henryโs men out the door.
โGloria, what the hell do you think youโre doing?โ Henryโs face contorted with shock and rage.
โIf youโre so convinced of Amyโs guilt, why not let her defend herself?โ Gloriaโs voice cut through the air like steel.
โThe evidence is right here. Why involve the police?โ Henryโs eyes blazed as he glared at Gloria. โHavenโt you embarrassed yourself enough? Do you want all of Norava to know about Landon being cheated on?โ
The sight was intimidating enough to make even Amelia uneasy, let alone the petite Gloria. Thank goodness for the security team in the house; they'd keep them both safe.
โYou really think you can accuse me of cheating with fake evidence?โ Amelia straightened her spine, projecting confidence. โThese photos are AI-generated. Thatโs not even my face.โ
โWhat about Lanny then? Heโs real enough, isnโt he?โ Henry roughly yanked Lanny forward, shoving him in front of Amelia. Lanny was trembling, too terrified to make a sound.
โHaving contact with employees is perfectly normal,โ Amelia replied with icy composure.
โBullshit. Youโve been fooling around with him at the office every day. Youโre even carrying his child,โ Henry sneered.
Amelia let out a short, cold laugh. โHeh.โ
โWhatโs so funny?โ Henryโs brow furrowed in anger.
Despite having everything under his control, with Amelia seemingly as powerless as an ant, Henry couldnโt shake the chill that ran down his spine at her smile.
โWe can do a DNA test on my baby,โ Amelia said, her hand resting on her stomach.
Henry relaxed, smirking inwardly. โSo thatโs her game.โ A wave of smug satisfaction washed over him. โNo matter. Iโm already one step ahead.โ
โIโve already consulted with doctors. Fetal DNA testing requires at least 65 days of pregnancy. Do you really expect the Kingsleys to keep supporting you until then? If we wait any longer, youโll bleed our family dry,โ Henry sneered.
โHenry, youโve certainly done your homework,โ Amelia replied, her smile unwavering, showing no trace of fear.
โWhatโs the rush? Itโs just two months,โ Gloria interjected. She had no idea what Amelia was planning. โAmy only has temporary control of the company. She canโt actually steal anything.โ
โLetโs wait for the police,โ Amelia said calmly.
โYes, letโs.โ Gloria nodded, reaching for her phone. This time, she would be the one making the call.
โDonโt you dare,โ Henry shouted, panic rising in his voice.
โWhy not?โ Gloria challenged him. By now, she was absolutely certain this was all Henryโs elaborate scheme.
โEverything Iโve done was for you and Landon, for the Kingsley family. Why canโt you understand that, Gloria?โ Henry exploded.
โWe should call a doctor,โ Amelia suggested coolly.
Gloriaโs face instantly filled with concern. โAmy, is something wrong with the baby?โ
โThere never was a baby.โ Amelia lifted her chin, taking satisfaction in watching the color drain from Henryโs face.
โThatโsโฆ Thatโs impossible,โ Henry stammered, his composure cracking. โThe pregnancy test, the medical records about the threatened miscarriageโฆโ
โItโs all fake.โ Amelia gently squeezed Gloriaโs hand. โGloria, Iโm sorry I deceived you.โ
โWhat?โ Gloria stood there stunned.
โI was planning to tell you later, but since Henryโs determined to make my pregnancy an issue, I had to come clean now.โ Ameliaโs voice was apologetic.
Gloria felt a whirlwind of emotions. While relieved that Ameliaโs reputation remained intact, she couldnโt help feeling disappointed about losing the prospect of a grandchild.
โSo, Henry, Lanny, what do you have to say for yourselves?โ Amelia asked with a slight smirk.
Henryโs face had turned a deep shade of red as he stared at Ameliaโs stomach, refusing to believe the pregnancy was fake.
As for Lanny, he was trembling even more violently now. Not only would Henry withhold payment for the failed setup, but Lannyโd also lose the job heโd struggled so hard to find.
Henry, having regained his composure, snapped, โLanny. Tell her.โ
Lanny understood what Henry wanted. His voice trembled as he spoke, โAmy, how could you lie to me too? I really thought I was going to be a father.โ
โWith that twisted mindset of yours, I hope you never have children.โ Amelia rolled her eyes, not bothering to argue with someone who was clearly being manipulated.
Lanny fell silent, having no response.
โAmelia, is this how you speak to the man you supposedly love?โ Henryโs voice dripped with malice as he changed tactics. โEven if youโre not pregnant, you have cheated, and thatโs unforgivable.โ
