Chapter 331
Landon and Tuff were stunned to learn that Monica was telling the truth. The biggest secret of the Mystic Sect was a deceased woman, Charlee, the wife of Monroe and the mother of Monica, the daughter of the Kyle family from the Kington Gang.
Inside a specially crafted crystal coffin, Charlee appeared breathtaking, her cheeks rosy as if she were sleeping soundly. โIs she dead, for real?โ Tuff blinked in disbelief.
Monica sobbed, crying out to the crystal coffin, โMommy, Mommyโฆโ
โWhatโs wrong with her?โ Night Owl asked.
Monica despised the woman who had hypnotized her, but with her beloved Paul still in their grasp, she felt compelled to acquiesce. โMy mommy is sick. Thatโs why sheโs been sleeping here for over ten years,โ Monica said, her voice heavy with sorrow.
โAfter all these years, her body still looked flawless. Was it a mystic power or simply advanced technology?โ Night Owl pondered.
โPlease, donโt disturb my mommy!โ Monica sobbed uncontrollably, her voice quaking with fear as her eyes remained fixed on Charlee inside the crystal coffin. It was a heartโwrenching expression of a childโs instinctive need to protect her mother.
Tuff asked Landon, โWhat now?โ
โWe shouldnโt bring up the past, butโฆโ Landon frowned deeply, โThis is our only chance to win. They need to identify Monroeโs weakness if they want to succeed.โ
โThatโs right! When itโs time to fight, thereโs no place for mercy.โ Tuff strode confidently toward the crystal coffin without a momentโs hesitation.
There was a switch that controlled the preservation system inside. If he pressed it, the preservation would fail, and Charlee would turn to dust. Of course, destroying her body wasnโt his intention.
โStop!โ Monroe shouted in panic, and then two figures came running in.
Same height, same faceโif it werenโt for their different clothes, one might think they were seeing the same person. โDaddy?โ Monica blurted out, then froze. โWait, two daddies?โ She couldnโt believe her eyes as she looked at two identical figures.
โMonica, Iโm your daddy, too,โ Marvel introduced himself. โYour daddy and I are twins.โ
โWhat?โ Monica blinked continuously. โDaddy, is that for real?โ
โYes.โ Monroe nodded. โIt wasnโt just me by your side as you were growing upโmy brother was there too. Whenever I was busy, he was the one taking care of you.โ
Fear settled within Monica. โDaddy was always there when I was growing up. I truly believed he didnโt even have a job.โ
Charlee told Monica that the boss didnโt have to work every day, and that explanation had been enoughโat least for a while. Only later did the truth surface: there had been two fathers all along. Yet no one had ever spoken of it, keeping the matter shrouded in secrecy.
โMonica, this isnโt the right time for that,โ Monroe interrupted, casting an angry glance at Landon. โWhatโs going on with you?โ
โWhy donโt you share your thoughts, Mr. Montgomery?โ Landon retorted.
Monroe snapped, โYou never lost your memory!โ
โThatโs right,โ Landon replied.
โSo you werenโt under the love spell either?โ Monroe pressed.
โThatโs right,โ Landon replied.
Monroe felt a buzzing sensation in his head. He never imagined, not in a million years, that he would fall for Landonโs trick. He was the one who had sent people to perform the surgery on Landon, and he had even witnessed Landon swallow the love spell with his own eyes.
โDaddy, please! Save me, save Mommy, save my husbandโฆโ Monica sobbed, her voice shaking with desperation. Even now, she still referred to Paul as her husband.
Monroe took a deep breath, barely managing to suppress his rage. At this point, the only way to change the situation was to unleash his abilities. However, recalling how his powers had let him down during his last encounter with Landon at home, Monroe no longer felt confident.
Marvel, encountering Landon for the first time, couldnโt help but size him up. โJust tell me what you want. Whatโs your price?โ Monroe demanded.
โShut down the Mystic Sect, and one of you brothers will take the fall,โ Landon said coldly. Monroeโs gaze was as chilling as frost and as sharp as a bladeโif looks could kill, Landon would have been dead on the spot.
Monica spoke softly, โDaddy, Iโm sorryโฆ I donโt know what they did to me, but I ended up spilling everythingโฆโ
โIt was hypnosis,โ Monroe said, taking a deep breath and finally resigning himself to the fact that he could no longer use his powers to manipulate time.
Night Owl stepped out, took off her hat, showing her pale face. โYeah, that was me.โ
โSo you used hypnosis on my people to gain access?โ Monroe cast a cautious glance at Night Owl.
His powers were nearly unbeatableโexcept against advanced psychics with hypnotic abilities, specifically those possessing supernatural hypnotic powers.
Hypnotizing an entire crowd was no longer just a parlor trick; it had become a genuine psychic ability. He had always dreamed of meeting someone with powers like that.
โMr. Montgomery, your powers do not affect me,โ Night Owl stated, her voice calm and steady, like a stream of ice water. Monroe couldnโt even bring himself to meet her gaze.
He turned to glare at Landon. โYou know anything said under hypnosis doesnโt count as real evidence.โ
โThatโs true for regular law, but not for the Flying Tiger Sect,โ Landon retorted. โWeโre going to reโinvestigate everything Monica said. Do you think you can handle that?โ
Monroe fell silent. The Mystic Sect was an illegal operation, deeply involved in numerous inhumane acts. There was no way it could withstand a serious investigation. But simply rolling over and taking the fall was something he couldnโt bear.
โMonroe, everything youโve doneโall your schemesโwas just to bring your wife back, wasnโt it?โ Tuff said, his hand hovering just above the button. โSo tell me, what will happen if I press this?โ
โDo you dare?โ Monroe and Marvel both shouted in unison.
โAs long as you both turn yourselves in, I wonโt touch the crystal coffin,โ Tuff stated. He had not thought that the most significant vulnerability of the Montgomery brothers was a corpse. Fortunately, he had brought Night Owl along tonight, disguised as a food delivery person. With the Montgomery familyโs security down, they hypnotized Monica and captured Paul.
โTuff, if you destroy the crystal coffin, nobody in here is getting out,โ Marvel warned. โI heard youโre some bomb expert? Take a good lookโthis place is packed with traps.โ
Tuffโs eyes flickered around anxiously, and his heart raced. The brothers had rigged the entire area with explosives to safeguard the crystal coffin. If the coffin were damaged, those bombs would obliterate the place.
โI recognized your tricks from the very beginning. Weโre on a mission, ready to sacrifice everything for the greater good. But what about youโare you truly prepared to risk your wifeโs life? And your daughter is right here, too. Are you genuinely going to endanger her as well?โ Tuff chuckled, completely unfazed.
Monroe sneered. โSo brave, huh? But what about your own families? Donโt you care about them?โ
โThe only way our families will find peace is by eradicating the Mystic Sect,โ Landon said. โBefore I arrived here, I had already said goodbye to my Honey.โ
โI donโt believe it!โ Monroe shouted. โYouโre just pretending. Come on, youโre human tooโthereโs no way you could leave your wife and kids behind.โ
โWeโre not like you,โ Landon said, shaking his head. โMonroe, enough talk. Make your choiceโeither you turn yourselves in and give Monica a chance to live, or we all die here together.โ
Monroeโs entire body shook visibly, evident to everyone around him. His fists were clenched tightly at his sides, burning with rage, while he felt utterly powerless. Monroe let out a primal howl, his scream reverberating throughout the room.
Night Owl sighed in frustration, approached Tuff, and took the button from him. โYou all need to get out of here. Iโll take care of this. Itโs not like I was counting on making it out alive anyway.โ
