Chapter 311

Landon also wished he could finish all this mess as soon as possible and get back to his wife and kid.

He sighed, "Amy, tell me about things at home."

"Honey, do you think Daniel can get Edith back?" Amelia asked, glancing at Night Owl. "Edith is pregnant. If they don’t get married, that’ll be too unfair for her."

"If he doesn’t get her back, your brother’s doomed to be single forever," Night Owl chimed in.

Amelia sighed. "But her mom is too hard to handle."

"Just try to persuade her. If it doesn’t work, kill the guy behind her," Night Owl joked.

"Fair point," Amelia agreed.

Landon listened with obvious amusement. ‘Edith’s pregnant? She actually ran off with a baby in her belly? Hat Daniel, you are in trouble too now!’

"Honey, when are we heading back to take care of the baby?" Night Owl asked.

Hearing his son mentioned, Landon became alert and all ears.

"Someone is taking care of the baby, so don’t worry! Besides, I haven’t had enough fun," Amelia replied.

"Alright, I’ll listen to you," Night Owl said, completely smitten.

The doting couple just couldn’t stop flaunting their love for each other.

Landon was completely content.

Suddenly, it dawned on him that his absence didn’t seem to make a big difference to his family.

His wife didn’t need him, and his son needed him even less… ‘Man, what a loser I am,‘ he thought.

‘No way. I’ve got to finish this mission fast and rush home to pamper my wife and kid!’ he told himself.

"Amy, same place in three days. I’ll bring Monica, and Night Owl can hypnotize her to see what she knows about the Mystic Sect," Landon messaged.

Amelia’s nerves were tingling with excitement.

Landon was staying here mainly to get to the bottom of the Mystic Sect.

If they could get some secrets out of Monica under hypnosis, that would really speed things up.

But Night Owl, though….

Amelia pretended to just be scrolling on her phone as she secretly sent Landon’s plan to Night Owl.

Ever since she hypnotized Bill in the operating room, Night Owl still hadn’t bounced back. ‘Can she really pull this off?‘ Amelia wondered.

Night Owl glanced at Landon, who was hiding behind the potted plant, and smiled. "Alright, whatever you say."

Landon took a small sip of his coffee, set it down, and got up to leave.

"Amy, there’s something in the coffee."

Amelia’s eyes lit up. After Landon and his crew left, she slipped over to the seat Landon had just vacated.

Sure enough, she found a tiny ball of paper wrapped tightly in plastic wrap inside the coffee cup.

When she unfurled it, she saw it was a map of the Montgomery family’s estate.

Since the Montgomery family didn’t have any clues about the Mystic Sect, Landon must be planning to root out the Montgomery family for good if he went to the trouble of drawing up this map.

Amelia snapped a photo of the map and sent it to Kayla.

"You really do know him," Night Owl said with a faint smile.

She’d thought Amelia would at least ask her opinion, but nope–Amelia just went ahead and made the call herself.

"He never wastes his effort," Amelia replied with a smile. "Let’s go, my dear husband."

Night Owl rolled her eyes at her.

They held hands, always keeping up their act as a sweet, loving couple.

Aiden gazed at them through the car window, feeling a deep sense of frustration and helplessness.

‘How’s a guy supposed to handle a woman who’s such a badass?‘ he thought.

"Mr. Kyle, aren’t we here to pick someone up?" the driver reminded him.

Aiden waved him off. "It’s not a good spot. Just follow them quietly."

"Understood."

Amelia and Night Owl ambled along without a care in the world.

The autumn weather in Dreicean was pleasantly mild, and the scenery was easy on the eyes.

The plane trees lining the road had already turned yellow. Whenever the wind blew, dry leaves drifted down like butterflies.

Night Owl’s overly slender figure looked even more delicate and lonely in this setting, carrying a kind of haunting beauty.

Aiden was utterly entranced as he watched her, aching to go over, pull her into his arms, and give her some comfort…

Suddenly, the car screeched to a halt.

The car braked hard, and Aiden’s head slammed into the window.

Just as he was about to snap at the driver, he looked up–only to see Night Owl standing right outside the car window.

Her face was pale, a frosty chill clinging to her features, but her eyes blazed with fury.

Aiden swallowed hard, his throat suddenly dry. He thought about getting out of the car, but with Night Owl standing right by the door, he’d probably end up hitting her with it.

So, he rolled down the window and gave her an ingratiating smile. "Hey, we meet again."

"Childish!" Night Owl snapped.

Aiden quickly jumped out of the car to give chase, but Amelia stopped him. "He’s a guy right now."

"What, I can’t chase after my bro?" Aiden protested, but after a split second of hesitation, he took off running.

Amelia shook her head and sat down on a bench under a plane tree to wait.

Honestly, Aiden was actually a surprisingly good fit for Night Owl.

One was way too hot, the other way too cold–put them together and you’d get the perfect temperature.

Now it just depended on whether Night Owl actually felt anything for Aiden…

"Mrs. Kingsley," the driver said as he got out of the car, bowing respectfully.

"How did you guys get here?" Amelia asked.

"Mr. Kyle’s thinking about settling down," the driver said with an awkward laugh.

Even the driver felt a little awkward, thinking back on all the things Aiden had done to Amelia before.

"Mrs. Kingsley, honestly, Mr. Kyle’s not a bad guy. He’s just a bit too paranoid sometimes…" the driver said.

"Yeah, that’s just his genes at work," Amelia replied.

The driver could only stare speechlessly.

Compared to the rest of the Kyle family, Aiden’s paranoia was actually the mildest.

Kayla’s presence had done wonders for him.

But compared to normal people, he was still pretty crazy.

‘Who knows if Night Owl will end up thinking Aiden’s just too much for her… If he falls for her again and gets rejected, he might just go off the deep end,‘ the driver thought, looking worried.

Amelia smiled to the driver. "Samuel, looks like you care about him a lot."

"Mr. Kyle’s really not a bad guy…" Samuel said awkwardly, trying to defend his boss but couldn’t really find the right words.

"I know," Amelia said.

Amelia’s words took him by surprise. "Mrs. Kingsley?"

"He’s way better than he used to be. Now that he’s on the right track, he’ll just keep improving," Amelia said.

These days, jobs were all about the paycheck–nothing more, nothing less.

If you could handle it, you stayed. If not, you just called it quits.

But everyone working at the Kyle estate had been there forever, which meant Aiden had to be a pretty good boss.

The autumn wind kept blowing, sending leaves swirling down the wide avenue. Even the concrete skyscrapers looked almost poetic in this scene.

Amelia found herself completely mesmerized by the view and pulled out her phone to snap a few photos, wanting to remember the moment.

Suddenly, her camera froze on a two–toned building toward the back on the left.

The building was a big rectangle–dark blue on the outside, with a gray strip running down the middle.

Nothing seemed off about it at first glance.

But when the dry leaves appeared in the foreground of her camera, the whole building suddenly looked exactly like the shape of a door. Amelia blinked, looking again at the accidental shot she’d just taken. The more she stared, the more it seemed like a giant, magnified door. ‘Was the building deliberately designed that way for some special reason? Or am I just letting my imagination run wild?‘ she wondered.

She really couldn’t shake the suspicion that this building was actually the Mystic Sect’s base.

Amelia’s heart was racing, filled with a wild mix of excitement and nerves.

She clutched her phone tightly, glancing around. ‘Why aren’t Night Owl and Aiden back yet?‘ she wondered anxiously.

‘Hurry up and come check out that building with me!‘ she urged in her mind.
