Chapter 253

โ€œMโ€“My last name?โ€ Amelia stammered, her eyes wide. โ€œGrandpa, do I have to change my name?โ€

That would be a real hassleโ€“sheโ€™d have to update all her documents.

Her business licenses, share certificatesโ€ฆ those were manageable.

But the real problem was, sheโ€™d have to change the name on her marriage license too!

She really didnโ€™t want to change her marriage license.

Her marriage license was the thing she treasured mostโ€“she didnโ€™t want even the slightest change to it.

โ€œChanging your name now would be a hassle. You donโ€™t have to,โ€ Scott said kindly. โ€œHere in Norava, youโ€™re Amelia Edwards. Back in the capital, youโ€™ll be Amelia Zuckerberg.โ€

โ€œOkay,โ€ she replied.

Amelia smiled as she watched Scott add Landonโ€™s name to the family tree.

A sense of belonging washed over her.

From now on, she finally had a place to call home.

โ€œBy the way, whatโ€™s the babyโ€™s name?โ€ Scott asked.

Amelia and Landon exchanged a smile. Landon said, โ€œHis nickname is Kimsey. We havenโ€™t picked a formal name yetโ€“we were waiting for you, Grandfather!โ€

โ€œKimsey, thatโ€™s a lovely nameโ€“means everything is complete and blessed. But for a boy, the formal name should sound a bit more heroic. Letโ€™s call him Alexanderโ€“brave and strong,โ€ Scott suggested.

โ€œThank you, Grandfather,โ€ Landon said, clearly pleased.

Scott was already ninety years oldโ€“having him name their son felt like passing on a lifetime of blessings.

โ€œAlright, the ceremonyโ€™s done! Now we can relax and chat,โ€ Scott said.

Emery couldnโ€™t wait to present the engagement gifts he had prepared for Amelia.

โ€œAmelia, Iโ€™m adding to your engagement gifts. This penthouse has already been decorated to Aunt Catherineโ€™s tasteโ€“I think youโ€™ll love it,โ€ he said.

โ€œOf course, of courseโ€ฆโ€ Ameliaโ€™s eyes brimmed with tears.

From the oldest to the youngest, no one in this family had ever forgotten Catherine.

โ€˜Mom, can you see this from up there?โ€™ Amelia thought, โ€˜Are you happy?โ€™

โ€œAmelia, this is from your big cousin. Just sign here,โ€ Rafael said, handing her a share certificate.

As the eldest son in the Hughes family, he seemed even more calm and mature.

Amelia hesitated, not daring to take it. โ€œRafael, you really donโ€™t have to. I have money, and my own company. The Edwards family business is mine now, and itโ€™s doing wellโ€“Iโ€™m making good money.โ€

โ€œI know,โ€ Rafael replied with a charming smile. โ€œWhat you have is yours. What Iโ€™m giving is just my way of showing I care.โ€ โ€œAmelia, just accept it!โ€ Scott said, his face creased with joy at how thoughtful his grandsons were.

Amelia glanced at Landon, feeling a bit awkward. โ€˜If I keep accepting all these gifts from my side of the family, will my husband feel any pressure?โ€™ she wondered.

So far, only two of her cousins had stepped up with gifts. If the whole family joined in, sheโ€™d be absolutely loaded!

โ€œSince itโ€™s your big cousinโ€™s way of showing he cares, just take it,โ€ Landon said with a smile, though in his heart he was a little exasperated.

โ€œHoney, why would you think Iโ€™d feel insecure about this? Itโ€™s just a house and some cashโ€“like Iโ€™d actually care!โ€ he grumbled inwardly.

Amelia was speechless.

โ€œIf they keep giving you gifts, just accept whatever they give you. No need to check with me,โ€ Landon continued. โ€œIf you so much as glance at me for approval, your grandpa will start glaring at me!โ€ he added with a mental sigh.

Amelia blinked and looked over at Scott.

Sure enough, the old man was watching Landon, his eyes cloudy but shrewd, his gaze full of unspoken meaning. โ€œThanks, cousin,โ€ Amelia said, fighting a smile that was hard to hide.

โ€˜Haha, so even Landon can get put in his place!โ€™ she thought.

Not to be outdone, Emery presented a set of jade jewelry worth 15 million dollars.

Her uncle, Aarav, was even more generous, gifting antique ornaments whose value was impossible to estimate.

Finally, Scott and his wife also gave her antiques.

Daniel couldnโ€™t help but laugh. โ€œGrandpa, Uncle, cousins, youโ€™ve never been this generous with me.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re not getting married. What weโ€™re giving Amelia is her engagement gifts,โ€ Aarav replied.

โ€œSo, if I get married, will I get the same treatment?โ€ Daniel asked.

Aarav rolled his eyes at him. โ€œLetโ€™s talk about it when you actually have someone to marry.โ€

โ€œExactly! Someoneโ€™s only just started the long, uphill battle of winning his wifeโ€™s heartโ€”heโ€™s got a long way to go!โ€ Emery said, grinning with a hint of schadenfreude.

Daniel cleared his throat and pulled out a wedding invitation. โ€œThank you, Grandpa.โ€

โ€œWhat? Youโ€™re getting married?โ€

โ€œWait, youโ€™re not just trying to score some extra gifts with this invitation, are you?โ€

Amelia was also skeptical, whispering to Landon, โ€œHoney, whatโ€™s going on?โ€

โ€œI have no idea,โ€ Landon replied.

Landon was just as clueless.

Heโ€™d been recovering from surgery these days, and as for Daniel, it was like heโ€™d vanished into thin airโ€“he barely made his presence felt at all.

โ€œEdith?โ€ Emery exclaimed in disbelief. โ€œShe actually agreed to marry you?โ€

Danielโ€™s handsome face darkened, clearly annoyed. โ€œCousin, whatโ€™s that supposed to mean? Am I not good enough for her?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re goodโ€“looking, and you come from a decent family, but your character leaves something to be desired,โ€ Emery replied.

โ€œWeโ€™ve all heard about how you messed around with Edith and then dumped her,โ€ Emery chimed in, dragging it out for effect.

Danielโ€™s face turned even darker. โ€œThat was just a stopgap, okay? Iโ€™ve already apologized and made it up to herโ€ฆโ€

โ€œStill, she shouldnโ€™t forgive you that fast! I need to have a word with Edithโ€“girls need to keep their standards high. She should at least make you chase her for another two or three yearsโ€ฆโ€ Emery said, shaking his head.

โ€œEmery, Iโ€™m your cousin!โ€ Daniel was about to explode.

It had taken him forever to finally convince Edith to marry him, and now his cousins were all out to sabotage him on purpose.

โ€˜Are they trying to make me a bachelor for life or what?โ€™ Daniel thought, exasperated.

โ€œSo, you wanna light the fire or fan the flames? Take your pick,โ€ Rafael said, summing it up in one line.

Osiris and Emery both nodded enthusiastically.

They totally had him wrapped around their fingers!

Daniel was speechless.

Money could be earned again, but a wife was irreplaceable.

โ€œHonestly, I just wanted to surprise everyone today. I got the invitations ready ahead of timeโ€“Iโ€™m not here to score extra gifts or anything,โ€ Daniel said.

โ€œWell, looks like weโ€™ve got two reasons to celebrate!โ€

Everyone burst out laughing, and even Landon couldnโ€™t help but join in.

Daniel shook his head with a wry smile. โ€œIn this family, itโ€™s obvious daughters are the real treasuresโ€“sons just canโ€™t compete.โ€

โ€œOf course,โ€ Ophelia said, grinning from ear to ear. โ€œWhen are you going to bring Edith over so we can meet her?โ€

โ€œMaybe next time,โ€ Daniel replied.

Amelia suddenly realized that none of her three cousins had brought a partner with them.

โ€˜Are they all single? Or is there some other reason?โ€™ she wondered. She assumed that his oldest cousin must be about thirtyโ€“five.

โ€œEven though Iโ€™m the youngest, I still managed to tie the knot before any of you. Better hurry up and find someone, guys!โ€ Daniel said, looking smug about being the first to get married.

โ€˜Are my cousins really all still single?โ€™ she wondered. โ€˜Have they even tried?โ€™

โ€œDid you hear that, you three rascals?โ€ Aarav chided.

Rafael just shrugged, totally unfazed, and asked Amelia, โ€œSo, when are you two going to have your official wedding ceremony?โ€

โ€œOur baby just turned one month old, so we want to wait until heโ€™s a bit older. We havenโ€™t set a date yet,โ€ Landon replied. He and Amelia had already talked this over in private. Kaylaโ€™s recovery after her surgery wasnโ€™t going as well as Landonโ€™s, so she still needed more time to rest.

They planned to wait until Kayla was fully recovered and married off before thinking about their own wedding.

โ€œDonโ€™t keep me waiting too long. Once youโ€™ve made up your minds, let us know ahead of timeโ€“weโ€™ll come to Norava for the ceremony,โ€ Ophelia said.

โ€œOf course. Weโ€™ll do it as soon as we can,โ€ Landon said, squeezing Ameliaโ€™s hand under the table.

As they chatted, the kitchen brought out a lavish feast. The whole family gathered around the table, eating, laughing, and basking in the warmth of being together again.

No one asked Amelia what sheโ€™d been through all these years. They all understood without saying a word, and no one wanted to reopen old wounds or make her relive those painful memories.
