Chapter 219
โWhat do you think of this place?โ Aiden asked nervously.
Paloma withdrew her gaze, her eyes calm. โItโs alright, but itโs not as bustling as Lunova.โ
โSo she doesnโt really like it,โ Aiden thought to himself.
He let out a quiet sigh of relief.
โLetโs go home after we pick up Landen,โ Aiden said.
โOkay,โ Paloma nodded.
Her easy agreement made Aiden feel even more relieved.
As expected, the chip the Montgomery family had painstakingly developed worked wonders. The blocked memories would never come back.
โMr. Kyle, where are we headed now?โ the butler asked.
Immediately, Aiden called Edith. โMs. Meyers, howโs Landen doing?โ
โHis feverโs gone, but heโs not in great shape,โ Edith replied.
โThanks for taking care of him. Weโll come pick him up now,โ Aiden said.
โOkay, Iโm at the Kingsley familyโs place,โ Edith said.
At that, Aidenโs expression darkened instantly.
โMr. Kyle, I donโt have a place in Norava. Iโve just been staying at Ameliaโs place, thatโs allโthereโs nothing else to it,โ Edith explained.
But her explanation didnโt do much to ease Aidenโs concerns.
โIs Amelia at home?โ Aiden took a deep breath and asked.
โYes,โ Edith replied.
โAlright, Iโm on my way,โ Aiden said.
โOkay,โ Edith said.
As Aiden hadnโt seen Amelia in days, he was starting to miss her.
Anyway, Paloma was still wearing her mask and had lost her memory. As long as Amelia kept quiet, there was no way Gloria would recognize her.
Of course, Aiden was sure that Amelia wouldnโt dare reveal anything.
โPaloma, we have to make a trip to the Kingsley familyโs place,โ Aiden said after a momentโs thought. โYou know thereโs bad blood between me and them, so when we get there, donโt say or do anything. Weโll just pick up Landen and leave.โ
โOkay,โ Paloma nodded.
She stayed aloof and composed, as regal as ever. There wasnโt the slightest ripple in her calm eyes.
But only she knew how stormy her heart was!
The Kingsley family in Noravaโฆit was her homeโฆ
At the Kingsley familyโs place, Amelia nervously asked Edith, โWhat did he say?โ
โHe agreed,โ Edith replied.
She put down her phone and asked worriedly, โAmelia, do you think Paloma might remember anything?โ
โI donโt know,โ Amelia said, shaking her head. โSheโs not just lost her memory, sheโs also sick. I canโt just tell her who she is. But this is the best chance for her to meet my mother-in-law.โ
โYeah, youโre right. Before the Kington Gang is taken down, they probably wonโt get another chance to see each other,โ Edith sighed. โGood thing you brought Landen here.โ
โDidnโt you pick him up?โ Amelia suddenly froze.
โWhat?โ Edith questioned.
She was dumbfounded.
The two of them stared at each other blankly.
Landen was still just a kidโthereโs no way he couldโve flown overseas without an adult.
Neither of them had done anything, so how on earth did he get to Norava?
โCould it be Aiden?โ Edith whispered, her face turning pale with anxiety.
If it was Aiden, then they were inviting a wolf into their home today.
โDonโt worry, Iโll get the bodyguards over here,โ Amelia said quickly.
She immediately arranged for the bodyguards to be on standby. If Aiden made a move, theyโd pin him down right away.
โLanden just woke up,โ Gloria said.
She came downstairs holding Landen in her arms, her face beaming with joy.
The little boyโs arrival had, for the moment, swept away the heartache she felt over her sonโs betrayal.
Hearing Gloriaโs voice, Amelia and Edith could only drop the subject for now.
โMs. Meyers, Ms. Edwards,โ Landen called out sweetly.
โLanden, how did you get to Norava?โ Amelia asked anxiously.
โI flew here,โ Landen answered.
โI mean, who brought you over?โ Amelia pressed.
Landen tilted his head, thought for a second, and said, โUncle sent someone to pick me up.โ
At this, both Amelia and Edith were stunned. โIs Aiden really up to something?โ they both thought anxiously.
โLanden, Grandma Gloria bought you lots of new toys. Take a look and see if you like them,โ Gloria said, and laid out all the toys.
โWow, thank you, Grandma Gloria! I love all of them,โ Landen said happily. โGrandma Gloria, youโre even better to me than my real grandma.โ
This was the first time Landen had ever mentioned his grandma. Amelia seized the chance and asked, โLanden, is your grandma not good to you?โ
โItโs not that sheโs not good to me,โ Landen replied. โItโs just that sheโs way too strict. Sheโs always making me practice shooting, but I donโt like thatโฆโ
โSo the Kington Gangโs training starts from such a young age,โ Amelia thought to herself.
โWhat do you like, Landen?โ Gloria asked.
โI like toys, amusement parks, and kindergarten,โ Landen replied.
This was what a normal kidโs life should be like.
Amelia couldnโt help ruffling Landenโs hair, her heart aching with sympathy for him.
โIs the other half of his blood really from the Kyle family?โ Amelia wondered.
But from what theyโd found out, the Kyle family only had one sonโAiden.
โThen who on earth is Landenโs father?โ she thought, her mind swirling with questions.
Before Amelia could figure it out, the butler hurried in, looking anxious. โMr. Kyle is here.โ
โLet Mr. Kyle and Paloma in,โ Amelia said. โJust the two of them.โ
โOkay.โ
With that, the butler hurried out, and immediately the whole villa was on high alert, afraid that Aiden might try to use force.
But to everyoneโs surprise, Aiden came in with only Paloma.
โMommy!โ Landen shouted the moment he saw Paloma.
He dashed over to her, his face lit up with joy.
Paloma bent down and scooped Landen up. โLanden, you little rascal. You shouldnโt be bothering others like that.โ
โMommy, I was sick,โ Landen whined sweetly, clinging to Palomaโs neck. โYou and Uncle werenโt here, so I could only go to Ms. Meyers.โ
โClever boy,โ Paloma praised him, using the moment to glance around the room.
โWhy does this place feel so familiar?
โCould this be where I spent my childhood?
โIs that gentle-looking woman on the sofaโฆreally my mom?โ she wondered.
She racked her brain, but no matter how hard she tried, nothing came back to her.
But an inexplicable sense of warmth and familiarity surged through her, flooding her whole being.
She just didnโt want to leave this place at all.
โPaloma, letโs go home,โ Aiden said.
โMs. Meyers helped take care of Landen. We should at least thank her,โ Paloma said, and to everyoneโs surprise, she sat down.
Seeing this, Aidenโs heart leaped into his throat.
Amelia and Edith were also on edge, worried that anything could trigger Palomaโs condition.
Gloria, not knowing the truth, just couldnโt shake the feeling that the woman before her looked strangely familiar.
She gave Paloma a once-over and asked, โAre you Miss Kyle?โ
โYes. And thank you for looking after my son,โ Paloma replied with a gentle smile, her eyes as calm and unreadable as ever.
โYouโre welcome. Landen is such a smart and adorable boyโI just love having him around. You all should drop by whenever you like!โ Gloria smiled warmly.
โIโm afraid thatโs not possible,โ Paloma said, shaking her head. โWeโre about to return to Lunova.โ
โOhโฆโ Gloria said, her disappointment clear.
โMs. Meyers, thank you for looking after Landen,โ Aiden said, taking off his watch. โPlease accept this as a thank-you gift.โ
โOh, no, I canโt accept that,โ Edith declined quickly, shaking her head.
She didnโt dare take anything from Aiden. What if there were a tracker or a recording device hidden inside? That would be a nightmare.
โAiden, a manโs watch isnโt really suitable for her,โ Paloma said with a smile, taking off her watch. โMs. Meyers, why not take mine instead? Itโs the latest womenโs model, and it suits you perfectly.โ
โButโฆisnโt this a bit too expensive?โ Edith said hesitantly.
โCompared to my son, this is nothing at all,โ Paloma smiled.
At this, Ameliaโs heart pounded in her chest.
Ever since Paloma lost her memory, she had never remembered that Landen was her son. Back at the manor, sheโd always just called him โLandenโ and never once said โmy son.โ But todayโฆ
โDid coming back here trigger something?โ Amelia thought anxiously.
โEdith, just take it,โ Amelia said. โOtherwise, theyโll keep feeling like they owe you a favor.โ
โAlright then,โ Edith said, reluctantly taking the gift.
Then Aiden urged impatiently, โPaloma, letโs go home already!โ
โDonโt be in such a hurry, stay a bit longer,โ Gloria said. For some reason, she just felt especially close to Paloma and wanted to keep her around a little longer.
She had the staff bring out some coffee and cakes.
Paloma helped herself, acting like she belonged there.
โSeriously, what am I even supposed to say to this?โ Aiden thought, completely at a loss.
