Chapter 195 โ€œAmelia!โ€

Edith and Daniel objected at the same time.

โ€œWe need to work together on this. Iโ€™ll go to the Kyle family and see how Paloma ended up there with amnesia. You two should return home and help at Project Azureveil headquarters,โ€ Amelia said, her voice steady and calm.

Amelia analyzed the situation rationally.

From the way things looked right now, Aiden was only after her.

That made things a whole lot simpler.

She would protect herself first, even if it meant cooperating with Aiden for the time being.

Once Landon came back, she would make Aiden pay double. He wouldnโ€™t know what hit him.

โ€œIf we donโ€™t do this, none of us will make it back,โ€ Amelia said firmly.

โ€œI brought some people with meโ€ฆ but I still canโ€™t relax,โ€ Daniel said, worry etched on his face.

Amelia sighed. โ€œDaniel, no matter how strong an outsider is, itโ€™s hard to fight someone with home advantage. This is Aidenโ€™s territory.โ€

Daniel fell silent, his heart aching.

He couldnโ€™t understand how Amelia could stay so calm in this situation.

She must have faced a lot of despair on her own before.

โ€œDaniel, Iโ€™ll be waiting for you and Landon to come get me. If you manage to reach him, let him know Iโ€™m okay. I can handle myself,โ€ Amelia said.

Worried Daniel might not believe her, Amelia showed them the bracelet. โ€œLook, this is a hidden weapon Landon had custom-made for me.โ€

โ€œWow, thatโ€™s so clever!โ€ Edith gasped, her eyes sparkling with envy. โ€œIโ€™m so jealous!โ€

She really wanted a hidden weapon like that too.

โ€œAmelia, youโ€™re right about everything. But Iโ€ฆโ€ Daniel said, his voice trailing off.

โ€œI still worry about you,โ€ he admitted.

Amelia arched an eyebrow and gave a soft, reassuring laugh. โ€œI know.โ€

โ€œAmeliaโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDaniel, walking right into the tigerโ€™s den is the best way. When you come for me, you can take Kayla home too,โ€ Amelia said.

Daniel pulled her into a hug, finally relenting. โ€œOkayโ€ฆโ€

After getting herself together, Amelia unblocked Aiden from her blacklist.

โ€œMrs. Kingsleyโ€“oh, wait! Miss Edwards, you finally called me,โ€ Aiden answered, his voice gentle and full of laughter, as if nothing had ever happened. It was like they were still the best of friends.

โ€œWhereโ€™s Kayla?โ€ Amelia asked.

Aiden chuckled. โ€œSheโ€™s at home. Do you want to see her?โ€

โ€œMm,โ€ Amelia replied.

โ€œThen Iโ€™ll come pick you up?โ€ Aiden offered.

โ€œOkay!โ€ Amelia agreed.

Aidenโ€™s smile stretched from ear to ear.

No matter how stubborn a woman was, once she met him, sheโ€™d become soft and gentle in his hands.

โ€œDaniel and Edith are heading back home,โ€ Amelia said.

โ€œGreat, how about we give them a ride to the airport?โ€ Aiden suggested.

He actually phrased it as a questionโ€”one could still sense a measure of respect in his tone.

Edith felt a little more at ease and whispered to Daniel, โ€œHe might be a bit controlling, but deep down, heโ€™s probably not a bad personโ€ฆโ€

Daniel stayed quiet.

Men like Aiden were the scariest when they went dark.

Suddenly, a lightbulb went off in Danielโ€™s mindโ€”he thought of Jonas.

He was just as obsessive as Aiden.

โ€˜If I could get Jonas to infiltrate the Kyle familyโ€ฆโ€™ Daniel mused.

โ€œEdith, can you get Jonas to come over?โ€ Daniel asked.

โ€œUncle Jonas? Iโ€™ll try to reach out to him once weโ€™re back in the capital,โ€ Edith replied.

โ€œOkay.โ€ Daniel nodded.

Jonas had a special kind of respect for Landon. If he was willing to help, that would be ideal.

And if he wasnโ€™t, Daniel had plenty of ways to make him say yes.

Before long, Aiden showed up in person. โ€œMiss Edwards, Iโ€™m here to pick you up.โ€

โ€œYou should just call me Mrs. Kingsley,โ€ Amelia said with a frown. โ€œIโ€™m not a โ€˜missโ€™ anymore. Iโ€™m married.โ€

โ€œBut youโ€™re a widow now,โ€ Aiden pointed out.

โ€œThat still makes me Mrs. Kingsley!โ€ Amelia retorted.

Amelia shot Aiden a fierce glare, standing firmly at the doorway, refusing to take a single step further.

In matters of love and emotion, the one who fell the hardest always ended up losing the most.

She might despise Aiden, but right now, she had to make the most of his feelings for her. If he wanted to be wrapped around her finger, so be it.

They stared each other down for a moment before Aiden finally backed down. โ€œAlright, Mrs. Kingsley.โ€

โ€œLetโ€™s go!โ€ Daniel said, dragging his suitcase without even looking at Aiden.

Aiden didnโ€™t get angry at allโ€”he just had his driver take them to the airport in his luxury business car.

Everyone kept quiet the whole ride.

It wasnโ€™t until Daniel and Edith were about to board their flight.

โ€œMr. Zuckerberg, letโ€™s not cross paths for a while,โ€ Aiden said, and there was a deeper meaning behind his words.

Everyone got the message.

Danielโ€™s eyes were practically on fire.

Edith pinched his hand, and he managed to hold back.

He looked at Amelia, the one heโ€™d worked so hard to find. โ€œAmelia, take care of yourself.โ€

โ€œOf course!โ€ Amelia said, raising an eyebrow, deliberately putting on a show of being at ease.

The boarding announcement started playing over the speakers.

Every part of Daniel screamed not to leave Amelia here, alone to deal with Aiden, that obsessive madman.

โ€œDaniel, we need to board now,โ€ Edith said, grabbing his arm and pulling him toward the gate.

The airport was bustling with people, and soon their figures were swallowed up by the crowd.

Aiden smiled softly. โ€œMrs. Kingsley, letโ€™s go!โ€

โ€œMm,โ€ Amelia replied.

Amelia looked away and followed Aiden to the Kyle family manor.

From this moment on, she wouldnโ€™t be able to leave anytime soon.

โ€˜Landon, when are you coming to take me home?โ€™ Amelia wondered to herself.

โ€˜No matter where you are, donโ€™t forget. I and our baby are waiting for you to bring us home!โ€™ she thought, her heart full of longing.

The Kyle familyโ€™s vast, park-like estate left Amelia absolutely stunned.

โ€˜How rich and powerful must someone be to afford a house like this?โ€™ she couldnโ€™t help but marvel.

Aiden had the driver slow down, taking his time to show Amelia every corner of the manorโ€”he was clearly flaunting it, proud as could be.

โ€œSo, what do you think? The placeโ€™s pretty impressive, right?โ€ he said with a hint of pride.

โ€œMm,โ€ Amelia replied.

โ€œFrom now on, youโ€™ll stay here, live comfortably, and have a safe pregnancy. I promise you and your baby will have a good life,โ€ Aiden said, sneaking a glance at her belly, a flicker of regret in his eyes.

โ€˜Thatโ€™s Landonโ€™s child,โ€™ he thought bitterly, the taste of jealousy lingering in his mouth.

If it werenโ€™t for the fact that her health was so fragileโ€”and losing this baby might mean sheโ€™d never be a mother againโ€”Aiden would never have let her keep it. Honestly, if he had his way, that child wouldnโ€™t even exist.

โ€œWhereโ€™s Kayla?โ€ Amelia asked.

Aiden pointed toward a standalone pastel blue villa up ahead. โ€œSheโ€™s over there. But she has amnesiaโ€”she doesnโ€™t remember anything from before.โ€

โ€œAlright, I wonโ€™t upset her,โ€ Amelia replied, playing along. โ€œBut Iโ€™m really curiousโ€”how did she end up at your familyโ€™s home?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s a long story. We can talk about it later,โ€ Aiden said.

Aiden was clearly playing coy on purpose.

โ€˜Ugh, heโ€™s so infuriating!โ€™ Amelia fumed inwardly.

โ€œMy sister was really happy to hear you were coming. Landenโ€™s excited too,โ€ Aiden said.

Amelia stared out the window in silence.

Fields of tulips stretched out like a painting, and farther off, the roses were bright red and their scent filled the air.

โ€˜Has Paloma really been cooped up in this manor all these years?โ€™ Amelia wondered.

She couldnโ€™t even begin to imagine what that kind of life must be like.

โ€œI get what youโ€™re trying to do, but letโ€™s take things slow. My sister canโ€™t handle too much right nowโ€”her nerves are even more delicate than the baby youโ€™re carrying,โ€ Aiden said.

โ€œShe got hurt?โ€ Amelia asked in shock.

โ€œYeah, itโ€™s an old wound that just never healed,โ€ Aiden replied.

โ€œWhen did she get hurt?โ€ Amelia pressed, frowning.

โ€œShe had Landen before,โ€ Aiden said. โ€œOh, I forgot to tell you. Landen was actually born prematurely.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Amelia blurted out, totally stunned.

โ€œHe was born at seven months. We all thought Landen wouldnโ€™t make it. But that kidโ€™s a real fighterโ€”not only did he survive, he even managed to wake up his mom from a coma,โ€ Aiden said, a hint of pride in his voice.

Amelia was shocked, silently noting the key details in her mind.

โ€˜Coma, born at seven months, amnesia, old wounds that never healedโ€ฆ Just what kind of hell has Kayla been through?โ€™ she wondered, her heart twisting with worry.
