Chapter 176
Amelia didnโt go to the meeting. She was happily sipping coffee in the CEOโs office instead.
Seeing Landon walk in with a stormy expression, Amelia looked up in surprise and asked,
โNothing,โ muttered Landon.
Landon slumped into his executive chair, clearly displeased.
He thought, โThat punk Aiden wasnโt here to talk business. He just came to pick a fight!โ
Amelia forked a chocolate truffle and held it to Landonโs lips. โHoney?โ
Landon never had a sweet tooth, unless his wife was feeding him.
โDo you know Aiden?โ Landon asked.
โNo.โ Amelia wrinkled her nose. โNever met him before today. I donโt like him one bit.โ
In an instant, Landonโs eyes seemed to be illuminated by a spark, extremely bright.
โWhatโs wrong?โ
Amelia pouted and grumbled, โHe tried to stir up trouble immediately after he arrived. What a jerk! So I used a meeting as an excuse and came here for coffee.โ
Landon smiled, and the gloom Aiden had brought with him instantly melted away.
โThat young man wonโt be able to stir up much trouble,โ Landon thought dismissively.
โHoney, Iโve decided to invest in Yeatsmarsh Mountain,โ Landon said, locking eyes with Amelia.
โOkay,โ Amelia said, looking completely unfazed, as if sheโd known all along that he would invest.
The more Landon observed her, the more convinced he became that she was hiding something.
โStill,โ he thought, โif she doesnโt want to talk about it, then so be it.โ
Landon said, โHoney, letโs get away for a vacation.โ
Amelia looked surprised. โWhy so sudden? Arenโt you swamped at work?โ
โThereโs always more work to do. Letโs escape to a tropical island for a few days. We can treat it as our honeymoon,โ Landon said.
Amelia blushed, thinking, โWeโre already lovey-dovey every day at home. Itโs like a perpetual honeymoon.โ
โHow about it?โ Landon asked.
โMy momโs case hasnโt been resolved yet,โ Amelia said.
โLet the investigation run its course,โ Landon said gently. โWeโll come back immediately if thereโs any news.โ
โAlright thenโฆโ Amelia agreed softly.
Gloria quietly texted Amelia: [Amy, how about having a baby soon? I want a grandchild so much.]
[Mom, no rush. Amyโs still in recovery. Weโll take it slow.] Landon replied.
Gloria was surprised. โGood grief, do these two have any privacy left?โ
As expected, Merry Group partnered with the Atkinson family. The project started vigorously.
Within half a month, Aidenโs massive investment quickly stirred up a storm in Norava.
When Landon and Amelia returned from their honeymoon, Aiden had already become the hottest rising star in Noravaโs business circles.
Edith also returned from Pinecrest to Norava, where she became Aidenโs nephewโs piano instructor.
Amelia was dumbfounded and wasted no time asking Edith out for dinner.
โEnjoy your honeymoon, Amy?โ Edith had transformed from her once gaudy self into a serene recluse who had seen through worldly vanities. She now exuded serenity from within.
โEdith, how come youโre working for the Kyle family now?โ Amelia asked.
โTo be honest, I know Aidenโs sister Paloma. She asked me to teach piano to her son,โ Edith said with a gentle smile.
Amelia rubbed her forehead in disbelief. โYou know them?โ
Edith, gently puzzled, replied, โYes, Amy, is there any problem?โ
โNoโฆโ Amelia waved it off dismissively.
โI only met Aiden once and donโt know him very well,โ Amelia thought. โI canโt just label Aiden as having poor character based on those harmless little provocations he made during his trip to the Kingsley Group, can I?โ
Edith smiled softly. โAmy, I can finally live at ease in Norava. You should be happy for me.โ
She was now poised and confident, with no trace of the insecurity that once plagued her.
Amelia sighed softly. โOf course, Iโm happy for you. So, how did you and Paloma meet? Have you known each other long?โ
โItโs been years. We met at a party overseas and just clicked right away,โ Edith said.
โBack then, Edith was still so gaudy. Sheโd probably make people laugh at first sight,โ Amelia thought. โNo way would Paloma become instant friends with Edith just because of her over-the-top style.โ
With that thought in mind, Amelia said, โMaybe one day you could introduce me to Paloma, too.โ
โSure!โ Edith smiled warmly. โPaloma is sweet. I think youโll like her too. But sheโs still abroad and wonโt be here for a while.โ
Amelia smiled and said, โNo rush.โ
Amelia lowered her head and sipped her coffee, thinking, โThe mighty CEO of Merry Group, getting so hands-on with a projectโฆ Is he planning to settle down in Norava?โ
Suddenly, a pair of slender yet strong hands landed on the table. A smooth voice followed, โMrs. Kingsley, fancy seeing you here again.โ
Ameliaโs heart skipped a beat. Looking up, she saw Aiden.
He wasnโt wearing a suit today. Instead, he had changed into a cream-colored casual athletic outfit, looking radiant and energetic.
His golden locks framed eyes that sparkled like stars, dazzlingly radiant.
With that outfit and expression, he was the absolute definition of a โpuppy-eyed heartthrobโ, innocent yet dangerously charming.
Amelia set down her coffee and, in a businesslike tone, asked, โMr. Kyle, what brings you here?โ
โWell now, this little rascalโs here to see Ms. Meyers,โ Aiden said, nodding toward the boy beside him.
The boy was about five or six years old, with the same blonde hair and dark eyes as Aiden. He was handsome, well behaved, and an absolute charmer.
The little boy beamed up at them, sweetly greeting in his soft, adorable voice, โHello, Ms. Mayers. Hello, Ms. Edwards?"
โHello,โ Amelia replied warmly.
Ameliaโs heart melted at the boyโs cuteness, and she smiled gently.
Edith scooped the boy into her arms and asked softly, โWhat would you like to drink, Landen?โ
โLanden?โ Ameliaโs heart skipped a beat. โWhatโs his name?โ she blurted out.
โLanden Kyle,โ Aiden answered.
The name sounded meaningful. Amelia pressed further, โWhich word exactly?โ
โLanden with an E,โ Aiden explained.
โOh, I see!โ Amelia let out a relieved sigh. โThank goodness, itโs not the same word as Landon.โ
โWaitโฆ Mrs. Kingsley, did you think it was the same name as Mr. Kingsleyโs?โ Aiden asked, having seen right through Amelia.
Amelia felt a bit awkward. โNo, of course not,โ she denied quickly.
Aiden said with a playful smile, โDonโt worry, my sister and Mr. Kingsley have never met.โ
Ameliaโs ears tinged pink as she took another sip of coffee, her eyes stealing occasional glances at Landen.
Amelia thought to herself, โAm I just imagining things? The more I look at Landen, the more I see traces of Landon in him. I must be crazy. Absolutely!โ
Amelia pinched herself secretly, hoping the pain would snap her back to reality.
But she squeezed so hard that the sharp ache blurred her vision. Before her eyes, the golden-haired, dark-eyed child overlapped with an old photo of Landon as a child.
โHis eyes! Theyโre exactly like Landonโs,โ Amelia thought in shock.
Amelia finally pieced together the resemblance. Her heart pounded so wildly that it left her breathless.
โMrs. Kingsley, why have you been staring at my nephew like that? By any chance, you donโt think heโs Mr. Kingsleyโs illegitimate child, do you?โ Aiden asked, his alluring eyes shimmering with playful mischief.
Amelia forced a strained smile. โOf course not. I think this kid is adorable, so adorable it almost makes me want to have a baby myself.โ
โThen go ahead and have one! After all, itโs time to put Ms. Atkinsonโs special gifts to good use,โ Aiden said.
Amelia blurted out, โWhat?โ
โWhatโs Elaineโs gift? How come I didnโt know about it?โ Amelia wondered.
Aiden chuckled, โDidnโt you notice, Mrs. Kingsley? Theyโre all premium bedroom enhancers.โ
Hearing that, Amelia choked on her coffee.
โOh no, Landon canโt take any more of those enhancers. I wonโt be able to keep up,โ Amelia thought.
โEasy there, Amy,โ Edith said gently, patting Ameliaโs back to help her recover.
Catching Aidenโs knowing smirk, Amelia felt so awkward she couldnโt bear another second. Mumbling an excuse, she practically bolted away.
Amelia thought, โWhat puppy boy? Heโs a wolf in sheepโs clothing.โ
Behind her, the playful smile in Aidenโs eyes quickly vanished, replaced by a cold, calculating glint.
