Chapter 115

Jonas was lost in thought. He rarely showed such seriousness. Patrickโ€™s heart skipped a beat. โ€œJonas, speak up.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s a high dose of anesthetic,โ€ Jonas said slowly, his soft pink lips glowing in the sunlight. Jonasโ€™ slender, fragile frame seemed like it would break with the slightest touchโ€”he looked even more delicate than most women. Patrick thought, โ€˜No wonder Kenneth was so captivated by him.โ€™

Patrick was aroused but quickly pulled back. He thought, โ€˜It hurts. Itโ€™s swollen.โ€™ First, Patrick was scalded by the coffee, then rubbed by Camila. He couldnโ€™t possibly go to the hospital for something like this.

โ€œJonas, give me some ointment,โ€ Patrick said.

โ€œWhat kind of ointment?โ€ Jonas asked, puzzled.

Patrick pointed to his lower body and briefly recounted what had happened that day. Jonas was shocked. โ€œCamila was that wild?โ€

Patrick cleared his throat, embarrassed. Jonas said, โ€œYour familyโ€™s genes mustโ€™ve mutated from your grandmaโ€™s side, huh?โ€ Jonasโ€™ words hit Patrick like a slap, and for the first time, he thought he understood why he was different. A surge of resentment suddenly welled up inside him.

Patrick thought, โ€˜Why was I made this way? Amelia wouldnโ€™t have kept her distance if it werenโ€™t for my tangled feelings.โ€™

โ€œThe anesthetic you mentioned is strong but harmless. You donโ€™t need to worry about it,โ€ Jonas added. Patrick was still lost in his thoughts.

Jonas waved his hand in front of Patrickโ€™s face. โ€œHey, did you hear me?โ€

โ€œYou talk about my familyโ€™s genes, and what about yours? What kind of mess did you come from?โ€ Patrickโ€™s ribs, hands, lower body, and chest ached. Thus, his words were harsh. Jonasโ€™ frail body trembled. His complexion paled. He parted his lips, but no words came out.

Patrick finally realized heโ€™d hurt Jonas. After all, Jonas was Kennethโ€™s dearest, and Patrick had to fix this relationship. So, Patrick softened his tone. โ€œSorry, I was in a terrible mood today.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s fine,โ€ Jonas murmured. He lowered his head in sadness, like a delicate flower battered by a storm. โ€œAbout that anesthetic, continue,โ€ Patrick urged.

Jonas said, โ€œItโ€™s not something youโ€™d find at a regular hospital. It probably came from a research institution.โ€ Patrick asked, โ€œThen how did it get in me?โ€

Jonas said, โ€œThis substance is colorless and odorless. Maybe it was mixed into your food.โ€ Patrickโ€™s face darkened. He clenched his fists tightly. โ€œAmelia is so cunning.โ€

Chapter 115

Amelia had entered the private room in advance and set up the plan. Patrick had been so blinded by desire that he didnโ€™t see it coming. His blood boiled, and the pain down below flared up again. Patrick took a sharp breath. โ€œJonas, get me that medicine now.โ€

โ€œRight away.โ€ Jonas went to prepare the medicine for Patrick, but his mind kept racingโ€”how did Amelia have access to such a high-grade anesthetic? The last time he saw something like that was at his teacherโ€™s place. The more Jonas thought about it, the more uneasy he became. Unable to hold it in, he made a call to his teacher. โ€œDid the anesthetic you researched make its way to Norava?โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t need to know. Just stay away from the owner of the anesthetic. Donโ€™t harm him.โ€ The stern voice of a middle-aged woman came through. Jonasโ€™ heart skipped a beat, and he responded respectfully, โ€œUnderstood.โ€ Then, he took out one ingredient from the medicine heโ€™d prepared for Patrick.

Patrick was severely injured and didnโ€™t come to cause trouble for several days. Amelia and Landon enjoyed a peaceful, uneventful time together. It was pretty cozy. They went to work, came home together, ate meals, and chatted. Back home, they still slept in separate rooms, but at least they could wander around in their pajamas in front of each other. They were not quite family but closer than family.

Gloria watched the young couple get along so well, and she couldnโ€™t help but think about having grandchildren. โ€œLandon, Amy, when will you two have a baby?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m fine now. Why rush us for a baby?โ€ Landon said casually, sneaking a glance at Amelia. He thought, โ€˜I havenโ€™t even won her over yet. How could I push for kids now?โ€™

โ€œGloria, thereโ€™s no hurry,โ€ Amelia added, afraid Gloria would get anxious and force them to drink more of that โ€˜wineโ€™. โ€œAlright, if youโ€™re not in a hurry, I wonโ€™t push it.โ€ Gloria suppressed her disappointment, easing into patience. Gloria thought, โ€˜Landon is doing well and back on track. It doesnโ€™t matter when they have a baby. Right now, I just hope Landon and Amy fall in love. Amy is perfect for himโ€”I donโ€™t want them to split up.โ€™

โ€œMrs. Gloria, Mr. Zuckerberg has come for a visit,โ€ the butler announced. Gloria was puzzled. She asked, โ€œWhich Mr. Zuckerberg?โ€

The butler replied, โ€œDaniel.โ€ Landonโ€™s gaze darkened. He thought, โ€˜The nerve of this guy, coming to my house.โ€™ Gloria said, โ€œI donโ€™t know himโ€”โ€

โ€œI do.โ€ Before Gloria could finish, Amelia quickly raised her hand and said to the butler, โ€œPlease show him in.โ€ โ€œCertainly,โ€ the butler replied.

Landon wasnโ€™t pleased and couldnโ€™t help but let out a resentful thought, โ€˜Amelia is being too friendly with other men again.โ€™ Amelia choked on her own words. She glanced at Landon, her lips twitching as she explained, โ€œHis handkerchief had the Amber Vase design. I just wanted to ask about it.โ€

โ€œGot it.โ€ Landon finally relaxed.

Amelia breathed a quiet sigh of relief. She thought, โ€˜He gets jealous so easily!โ€™ โ€œMrs. Gloria.โ€ Daniel arrived, greeting Gloria politely before turning to look at Landon and Amelia. โ€œYou two are not easy to find.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re not close. Do you have business with us?โ€ Landonโ€™s tone was slightly biting. Even Gloria picked up on the tension. She wondered, โ€˜Could this man be Landonโ€™s romantic rival?โ€™

โ€œIโ€™m here for the Amber Vase. I heard from Marlon that you two bought it,โ€ Daniel said. Amelia was delighted and quickly asked, โ€œMr. Zuckerberg, you know about the Amber Vase?โ€

โ€œTo be honest, it belonged to my mother. I was hoping youโ€™d consider selling it to us,โ€ Daniel replied. His assistant was already pulling out a checkbook, ready to make a deal. Clearly, Daniel was determined to get the Amber Vase today. โ€œYour mother?โ€ Amelia froze. She thought, โ€˜Isnโ€™t the Amber Vase my motherโ€™s?โ€™

โ€œYes.โ€ Daniel nodded. โ€œMrs. Kingsley, would you consider parting with it?โ€ โ€œBut I remember the Amber Vase was left to me by my mother.โ€ Amelia shook her head, nervously leaning toward Landon.

An antique with a history spanning over 3,000 years couldnโ€™t have just one owner. Amelia didnโ€™t know how Debra got it or how long Debra had owned it. But Daniel didnโ€™t seem to be lying. The Zuckerberg family had once owned the Amber Vase, so he had come here searching for it. But Amelia didnโ€™t want to let it go. She thought, โ€˜Landon, please donโ€™t sell it.โ€™

โ€œMr. Zuckerberg, Iโ€™m sorry. Iโ€™m not selling,โ€ Landon said. Amelia relaxed, smiling at Landon, who was in the wheelchair. She thought, โ€˜Landon, youโ€™re so wonderful.โ€™

โ€œMr. Kingsley, you can name your price.โ€ Danielโ€™s tone was firm. โ€œMr. Zuckerberg, on what grounds do you claim the Amber Vase belongs to your family?โ€ Landon asked. He was smart. He had already begun to suspect why the head of the Zuckerberg family at Lunova had come to Pinecrest.

Daniel paused for a moment before responding, โ€œThe Amber Vase has been in the Hughes family for over 300 years. Thirty years ago, when the youngest daughter in the Hughes family married, the Amber Vase was part of her wedding gifts.โ€ Amelia thought, โ€˜Now he is bringing up the Hughes family?โ€™ A wave of unease swept over her. โ€˜Who really owns the Amber Vase?โ€™
