Chapter 553

So ruthless? Morwen's face contorted. She knew Tiffany wasn't joking. The threat silenced her prepared speech. Morwen choked, rolled her eyes, then forced a calm smile. "Let go of me first," she said, "and let me get dressed. Then I'll tell you"

"Pushing her luck," Tiffany thought. She smiled faintly, gently opening the window. "You're not qualified to negotiate. You have two choices: tell me honestly what you've done, or I'll throw you out."

Tiffany glanced downstairs, a playful smile on her face. "You won't die from this height. At most, you'll be crippled."

"Is she a demon?" Morwen thought. Rage almost made her curse, but she held it back. "Grandpa's illness has nothing to do with me," she said angrily. "It's chronic. You can ask his doctor. What I said is true."

"Nothing to do with you?" Tiffany sneered. "Haven't you always hoped something would happen to him so you could inherit his position?"

"But I didn't do anything!" Morwen exclaimed, clinging to the bathtub for fear of being thrown out the window. "If you don't believe me, investigate! Grandpa's coma has nothing to do with me. Really!"

Tiffany remained silent, thinking: Morwen's been ruthless in her climb for a decade. But it's also true that although she's thought of killing His Majesty many times, she'd never risk acting on it. His Majesty's favor would be ruined. It wouldn't be worth it, even for Morwen. She wouldn't dare, but her supporters might.

Tiffany stepped forward, grabbed Morwen's neck, and lifted her from the bathtub. "Tell me," she demanded, "who's behind you? The restless Azure Sea Royal Family, or someone else?"

Morwen's eyes flashed. "What are you talking about? What backer? Don't make false accusations!"

"You don't know? Are you sure?"

"Of course!" Morwen insisted. She couldn't reveal the secret; her life depended on it.

"Great." Tiffany's patience snapped. She grabbed Morwen, exerted force, and flung her out the window upside down.

They were on the third floor, overlooking a gravel path. Survival depended on luck.

"Ah!" Morwen screamed, flailing wildly, unable to grasp anything at that angle. "Let me go back! Please, I beg you"

"One last time. What about Grandpa's coma? Tell the truth, and I'll let go."

Tiffany sensed Morwen's hesitation. Between life and death, no one chooses death. Morwen struggled, then gritted her teeth. "Grandpa's illness is"

Before she could finish, a black shadow passed overhead. Morwen looked up, overjoyed.

Tiffany's face darkened, seeing Morwen stop. She put Morwen down. "Speak!"

But Morwen, for some reason, broke free and plunged downward without hesitation. Tiffany couldn't stop her.

Tiffany looked out the window. A black shadow streaked across the sky, a glint of a knife flashing in the moonlight, aimed at her face. Tiffany dodged; the knife embedded itself in the wall. The attacker was clearly skilled.

The delay prevented Tiffany from seeing the shadow catch Morwen and vanish with incredible speed. An afterimage was all that remained.

When Tiffany looked again, dawn broke. The moon was hidden; the shadow was gone, untraceable.

Tiffany's heart pounded. She rushed downstairs, but Morwen wasn't there. So the shadow rescued her. It's likely her backer. Which faction? she thought.

Garry and the others looked surprised. "Tiffany, what are you looking for?" they asked.

"Did you see a black shadow? Flying?" Tiffany asked. Her intuition said it was human, but the darkness and her quick reaction prevented her from seeing clearly.

Garry shook his head. "No. What happened?"

"Morwen was rescued," Tiffany replied. "Pack up. We have to leave." Morwen was vengeful and powerful; they needed to leave before she retaliated.

Garry nodded, signaling everyone to prepare for departure.

When June heard, she rushed over, anxious. "Miss Kelley, are you alright? Injured?" She saw the knife in the wall.

Tiffany shook her head. "I'm fine, June."

June sighed in relief. "By the way, June, investigate Morwen's connections. See if she's linked to Felix."

June was stunned. "Miss Kelley, do you suspect Felix saved Morwen?"

Tiffany nodded.
